Has anyone taken the train from Barcelona to Montserrat ??? If so, can you please post how far the station is from the port and if you purchased tickets prior to your cruise. Thanks . . . . . . .

We've just done this and it is dead easy! You can get a ticket online or from the Tourist Info office under Placa de Catalunya (we did this the day before we went to save time). If you get the Trans Monserrat or Tot Monserrat inclusive tickets, these include your return metro fare to Placa d'Espanya station where you transfer to the suburban line to Monserrat (every hour, first at 8.36). You must choose when buying the ticket whether you want to go up and down on the cable car or the rack railway. Its the same price for either, but they are not interchangable. If the cable car, you get off at Monserrat Aeri (on the onboard station display this is Monseerrat A), or for the rack railway get off at the next stop, Monistrol. We did the rack railway and the train will be waiting at the end of the platform for you. You also get included the 2 funiculars at Monserrat (we only had time to use 1!), entry to the audio visual display and art gallery and with the Tot Monserrat ticket you get lunch as well. PS I've just re read your question. If you are going from the port, get the shuttle bus to the Colom monument (€2 single, €3 return) and Drassannes metro station is the other side of the square. Its then 3 stops to Placa d'Espanya.
