SueO Posted April 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Some people have said that you can do this. How hard is it? And do they give you a hard time? Thanks.
springtxbill Posted April 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2004 If you take a lot of luggage off, Customs may be interested in why you are. Bill D RCCL Song of Norway 7/79? rance222 Posted April 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I'm not sure custums would know.Usually you walk off the ship into the luggage claim area, then thru custums last. So i'm not sure they would know when you picked up your luggage.
nosnobunny Posted April 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2004 When we debarked the Legend yesterday, the cruise director told us that we could carry all our own luggage if we chose. But he also said that the ship's staff would not offer assistance. Beth Carnival Legend March 28, 2004

mellow Posted April 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2004 They will give you no grief at all. We have done this on shorter (4 night cruises) when we had less luggage. You have to keep up with it until you get off ship (you have to be out of cabin fairly early) but as we were earliest tags off that was not such an issue. _____________________________ Cruise #7 - Mariner of the Seas - 09/05/04 Cruise #8 - Sovereign of the Seas - 09/13/04 Cruise #9 - Brilliance of the Seas - 02/25/
royalcaribbeanfan Posted April 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 6, 2004 When we debarked Voyager of the Seas in October 2002 we went through customs first and then baggage claim. Either things have changed or different ports do it differently. Happy Cruising Patty
Globaliser Posted April 6, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Wouldn't that be immigration first, then customs after baggage claim?
ducklite Posted April 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Patty- I think maybe you are confusing immigration with Customs. Generally you go through immigration first, then get your bags and go through customs. That's the way it's been anytime I've come in and/or out of the US, be it by plane or ship. Immigration is where you show your ID and proof of citizenship. They don't care about what you are brinign in, just that you have the right to be here (or there as the case may be). Once they OK you, you would get the bags and go through customs. They are the ones who care WHAT you are brining in, not who you are. It wouldn't make sense to go to customs without bags, because they are the ones concerned with the bags, where as immigration is concerned with YOU. Rare GaryWT Posted April 6, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I have done seen customs both ways before and after. If everyone took there own luggage, no one would get off the ship as a traffic jam would happen. Also, the dogs would not get to sniff your bags, the rumor we always hear is that customs bring in dogs to sniff around before we get off the boat. 3/98 Grandeur of the Seas 4/00 Grandeur of the Seas 2/02 Enchantment of the Seas 04/16/05 Navigator of the Seas
mcaron Posted April 6, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 6, 2004 JMHO...........Unless you have a reason to carry your luggage off, don't do it. Its a hassle to say the least. With everyone trying to depart the ship it is no easy task to be draggibg your luggage around people up or down the stairs or waiting for elevators.
