AllmanJoy Posted October 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Just recieved word from our TA that Princess Cay has been replaced with Nassau on our 10-13-04 Sun Princess cruise. Any suggestions of what to do in Nassau? Thanks in advance
phabric Posted October 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2004 We are on the Star Oct 31 due to stop at Princess Cay (Nov 6), also. We have been wondering if it will be a sea day or Nassau. Check out the Port of Call board. I know that Nassau has a great straw market. Princess will probably have tours advertised once you are on board. randolph Posted October 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Wish that were the case with the DAWN PRINCESS. P.C. was just cancelled and NOT replaced. Feel lucky and have a good time.
AllmanJoy Posted October 11, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted October 11, 2004 I'm actually looking forward to Nassau as it has been 19 years since I last visited ;) . That was way before Atlantis and back when Paradise Island was just a beautiful beach to visit. Not really sure what to expect. Friends were there about 2 weeks ago (the weekend after Hurricane Jeanne hit), said the straw markets and the port area was in pretty poor shape. Hopefully, they have been able to put things back together---I'll be there on Thursday. As for excursions, I've checked the website and there are no listings for Nassau. Guess we will just play this one by ear. It doesn't matter, We will be cruising for 10 days, Nassau is our 1st stop. There will be plenty to do at each of the other islands: St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Barbados & Antigua. I can't wait, only 48 hours to go!!!!:D
Desertbelle Posted October 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Exactly what Randolph says, you are very lucky to have Nassau, it sounds wonderful! We are still reeling from finding out two of our ports are being taken away without replacements. Have a great cruise!!
Pam in CA Posted October 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Oh, I'd much rather have Nassau than Princess Cays... or a day at sea. We've been to Princess Cays and am planning on considering it a sea day anyway. Two extra days at sea? I'd *love* that!
firsttimetocruise Posted October 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Hi, we just returned on Saturday from the 10/2 sailing of the Caribbean Princess. We went to Nassau in place of Princess Cays. We arrived around 12:45 or so, went ashore around 1:00pm. You only have until about 4:30 pm or so. We took a local bus to Cable Beach. If I had to do it again, I would have just stayed on the ship. The straw market is fun (if you enjoy that type of shopping) - lots to look at and buy. I heard that the waves over on Paradise Island were about 6 feet the day we were there, so you couldn't really go in the water. As for Cable Beach, it was ok but a lot of seaweed and stuff floating in water. We didn't even get in. I would enjoy a nice spa treatment on board ship or just enjoy the pools on the ship. zurmoly Posted October 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Nassua is a port to just stay on the ship at. Unless you head over to Atlantis, it is a waste of time. Dirty and the people are at you constantly to buy from them. At the straw market we coud not even stop and look, the people selling where in your face. Nassau is gross! scperk Posted October 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 11, 2004 I've been to Nassau once and I think once was enough also. My DW wants to go to Atlantis but I'm with some others that this might be a good days to stay on-board...Dennis
saltycaptn Posted October 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 11, 2004 I too see that we just have an "AT SEA DAY". I am on the DAWN PRINCESS as well not sure if is the same dates though. I am on the December 3rd Western Caribbean Explorer...not much exploring though. I have noticed a vast number of cancellations for shore excursions. :( The sad thing about P.C. is on my last cruise...it was cancelled due to a thunderstorm...I can seem to get to the Bahamas! Bruce Wish that were the case with the DAWN PRINCESS.P.C. was just cancelled and NOT replaced. Feel lucky and have a good time.

craftsrdkc Posted October 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 12, 2004 PaminMA...Sounds like you were not too enthusiastic about Princess Cays. Been on Princess other times, but this cruise will be the first with a stop in Princess Cays. What did you think of it? We are travelling with our girls (age 6 & 8) and are thinking of having them go to the Adventure Pirate Ship area they have set up for them. Do you know anything about this? Heard the food is not very well set up/prepared. We were told to eat on ship. What is your opinion and experience on the Cays. Thanks for the info. craftsrdkc ------------------------- Get me to the Cruise on time!! March 27/
Pam in CA Posted October 12, 2004 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Craftsrdkc... to be honest, we didn't think much of it. Even though we went to get tender tickets at about 9:30AM, our number wasn't called for over an hour. By the time we got to the shore which was at about 11AM, it was totally mobbed -- wall-to-wall people both on the beach and in the water. There wasn't a free lounger and absolutely no shade except at the bar. Princess never checked for tender tickets so I think people just went down and got onto the tender without having to wait. Since we were two adults with no kids with us, I don't know about the kids activities. Perhaps someone else can help you there.
meab Posted October 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2004 just checked the cruise personalizer for the 10/30 caribbean princess sailing, and in lieu of princess cays, we're scheduled for a stop in san juan on sunday night. then we have a day at sea, st thomas, st maarten, 2 days at sea, then home. i'm sorry to miss princess cays. i'm a big fan of the private islands, and this would be our first visit to PC. oh well. CruiserGus Posted October 12, 2004 #15 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Just checked the 10/23/04 sailing on Caribbean Princess and it too is being changed to San Juan. Must have happened in the last three hours. I too will miss Princess Cays. It was one of the highlights of the Golden Princess vacation back in 2002!
BeJeweled Posted October 12, 2004 #16 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Hello All, I just checked the personalizer for our 11-13-04 Caribbean Princess eastern cruise, and we are going to San Juan instead of the private island. I was glad to see the change as I usually don't get off the ship for the private islands.
RedMaple Posted October 12, 2004 #17 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Also on OCt 23 CP and noticed the San Juan port...will have to wait another day/cruise for Princess Cays...time in San Juan is 4 pm - 1030 pm. This was to be formal night.... wonder if they will change that. No excursions listed though. red
prophotogirl Posted October 12, 2004 #18 Share Posted October 12, 2004 time in San Juan is 4 pm - 1030 pm. This was to be formal night.... wonder if they will change that. No excursions listed though. red Good point about formal night! I wonder if it will get changed to the first full day at sea? That would be good for the 10/30 cruisers since Halloween was to land on the first formal night (and we'll be in San Juan then).
AllmanJoy Posted October 12, 2004 Author #19 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Just checked the cruise personalizer and it has been updated to reflect our itinerary change from Princess Cay to Nassau. The only problem is our stop in Nassau is from 7am until 11:30 am. Why do they even bother, that doesn't seem like enough time to do anything....especially if things don't open until 9 am. Oh well, looks like we will treat it as another sea day.
Murphey Posted October 12, 2004 #20 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Interesting in that we are on 11/7 and 11/14 for the Western/Eastern Star and there have been no itinerary changes for us so far......
balanceok Posted October 12, 2004 #21 Share Posted October 12, 2004 We actually enjoy Nassau and you can do most everything on your own. Get a map of town and walk up through town to Victoria Stairs. This is a beautiful grotto with stairs carved into the rock. One step for each year of Queen Victoria's life. At the top there is a small fort with great views of the port and city. Then walk back into town for some shopping. Everything is close in, fairly clean and the people are very hospitable. If you like flea markets, don't miss their market on the edge of downtown. Catch a cab over to Atlantis to explore around the hotel and casino. You won't be able to use their facilities, but its worth the visit. Walk back through the marina area to see some incredible boats. Then catch the water taxi back to town and the ship. Its a fun stop, and we've never understood those that are critical of it. You will enjoy it.

MissJennie_99 Posted October 12, 2004 #23 Share Posted October 12, 2004 We are on the Caribbean Princess 11/27/04 and our itinerary still says Princess Cays. No changes yet, but will keep watching.
BirmanCrazy Posted October 12, 2004 #24 Share Posted October 12, 2004 I just checked my itinerary for the Oct 30th sailing of the Carib Princess and it stops at San Juan form 4-11pm as well. I'm somewhat glad because that opens up 2 sea days before the cruise ends instead of having a port(Princess Cay) the day before we disembark. I hate to be rushed to pack my suitcases. :(
CruiserDoc Posted October 12, 2004 #25 Share Posted October 12, 2004 We're on the 10/23 CP and I'd like to know how the ship is going to get from FLL to San Juan in less than 24 hours. I bet there's a misprint and the San Juan day will be Monday, with a full day at sea on Sunday. Any thoughts??
