Cartegena with Kids?

Any ideas? My boys are 6 and 8 - too young for looking at architecture. Anyone hit the beach? I won't leave them on the ship....

Because of all of its tunnels and secret passages, Castillo de San Felipe is the perfect place for kids to enjoy and explore. And if they've seen any of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies, or ridden the attraction at one of the Disney theme parks, they will have even a deeper appreciation for both the fort and the old city. The old city has lots of nooks and crannies to explore -- some real interesting stuff, i.e. Las Bovedas, the dungeons, where provisions were stored for the troops during the Spanish time (now a colorful market place). Walk along the top of the wall that surrounds the city; explore the turrets, courtyards, the museums. Hire a taxi to take you to both the fort and the city. Dig up the history of Cartagena on the Internet (especially anything to do with pirates), share this with your boys before you travel -- build up their interest in, and knowledge of, Cartagena. Create excitement and anticipation!

 

PLEASE, forget the beach! Don't deprive your sons of the great adventure and the once-in-a-lifetime experience that awaits them in Cartagena!
