How thin are the walls between staterooms?

Recommended Posts

Can you hear things (conversation, TV, etc.) in the cabin next door?

If it is really quiet you can hear the TV or mumbled conversation. You can almost always hear the toilet being flushed because that is a pretty loud sound anyway. We have been in rooms with kids in the next room that had no adult in the room and they were jumping off the beds and banging against the walls. Security found their parents. We have also been in rooms with party's going on in the next room. There are plenty of lounges for parties.

We heard more noise at the hotel where we recently stayed than in any cabin on a ship.

The only noise we've ever heard in a cabin was because we were under the Windjammer (not our choice....they upgraded us from the hump to this JS under the WJ.....but that's a whole other story) and they get rolling (literally) up there VERY early in the mornings. Fortunately, this was in Alaska where the sun rises at about 4 am, so we were sort of awake already.

On three cruises, we have never heard our neighbours. Even on our last cruise, our first balcony, we only heard muffled sounds when on neighbours we outside at the same time we were. We have been careful to not book a connecting room or one above or below a music venue.

We did have a problem on the Explorer a few years ago. 800 kids onboard and they would run up and down the hallways at all hours. It sounded like elephants running on our ceiling:eek:

Cheers,

Oh my..about fourteen years ago we went on a for day cruise with our best friends on NCL. He was really pissy because they were having financial problems at the time. He went into the cruise with a bad attitude..like it is paid for ..enjoy..last time we are ever going away..We were next door to them, and after dinner I heard my bff moving the beds apart by herself..and there they remained for the rest of the cruise...ouch. and we could hear pretty much all of their conversations. This Spring on Princess...The Golden, we heard our next door peeps all the time..they had a small baby and a two year old..but dad was the worst..coming in at three toasted and yelling. We also had them on a tour with us to a resort..wanted to smack them for being so loud..not the kids! Slotto

Only time noise was ever an issue was when our cabin was directly above the band stand of the Safari Club. Even that wasn't too bad as we were usually up when the entertainment ended about midnight.
