Dining times Splendour of the Seas Eastern Med

Recommended Posts

Now that Splendour is on the Med routes can anyone confirm the late seating time for her Venice/Dubrovnik/Kusadasi/Santorini/Corfu trip? Are there 2 times for the shows - before and after dining times so as to cater for all seatings?

On the Navigator in May they were 6.45 and 9.15, ostensibly to accommodate the Spanish passengers. There were still 2 shows on the Nav; sometimes 8 and 9.45, sometimes 9.15 and 11.45. Don't know what they will do on the Splendour, but hope this might give you a guide.

We just went on that very itinerary on Splendour May 10-17, but we had early dining, which was 6:30 as I recall. I think late dining may have been as late as 9:00 PM.

As far as the shows, some nights there was just one time for a show, at a time when all could make it, and some nights two. But this is the truth. All of our diverse party of five found the shows very poor quality, the worst on any cruise any of us have ever been on, and not worth going to at all. Even the smaller venue entertainment was sparse and the one good group in the atrium was only on two nights. If entertainment is key to you, you will be very, very disappointed.

We were on this ship May 24-31 and had late seating at 9:00. Although I didn't want a 6:30 seating, we all thought that 9:00 was a little late. Our waiter was pretty slow and some nights, we didn't get through with dinner until 11:15 or even later. Then you go to sleep soon after that and the next thing you know, it is breakfast time again.

I agreed with latebloomer... entertainment left a lot to be desired. We have always enjoyed the comedians on cruises, but I was told that because of the diverse nationalities, a comedian is not a good idea. That is why they do all the dancing and singing type of shows, which I happen to totally dislike.

If you gamble, the nice thing was many of the nights the casino was designated as "smoke-free" and it was a pleasure to be in there without having to cough from all the smoke. (sorry smokers, I didn't mean to offend you)

In addition to the times, I wonder if you can comment on the food quality on Splendour. We are scheduled for Nov. 8 and I'm toying with the idea of changing our Nov. 1 from MSC to Splendour, thus doing a b2b. The recent reviews I've read have not been favorable and I'm a little concerned.

I was on the May 17th sailing and, while there were not as many dining choices as there are on larger ships, we thought the food choices presented were delicious enough. Food taste, though, is highly subjective. :-)

Food choices for sure were limited. That may be due to the cost of food now because we were on Legend for Western Med a few years ago and thought the food was fabulous then. Although Imani68 thought the food was delicious on Splendour, we thought it was mediocre, at best. Several meals were downright terrible, IMHO. They have cut out the lobster on formal night. Many of the dishes were the same thing night after night, but named something different. On several nights, we found it difficult to find one thing we wanted, whereas usually on a cruise, we are having difficulty choosing between several entrees.

That being said, if you choose a cruiseline solely based on food, RCCL is not the cruise for you. We choose a cruise by the ports and because RCCL has been a great line in the past for us.

the food was definitely good enough, not great. You can notice the cuts. As said above, no lobster, and as of a couple of months ago, no baked alaska either. There is a parade of the waving napkins instead LOL. I found something enjoyable to eat every night though, and our servers were fantastic. In fact, I found that the staff on the ship were all very good. We loved all four of the ports (same ones as the OP mentioned).

Activities seemed a bit sparse too, although we enjoyed trivia, which we always participate in. As far as the entertainment, it was not the lack of comediennes. (I never go to them, as I am hearing impaired and they generally talk too fast for me.) The production shows were just too amateur. I am used to good choreogophy (sp?), and good dancers and singers, and all these the shows were very, very lacking.

In general, RCLC just seems a bit sparse for me. I have mentioned the food cuts. Also, no robes in the room, and no lotion or conditioner. You just have to weigh the cost; the itinerary, and what is important to you.

Hope this helps.

Ellie

You were lucky if you had fantastic servers. Personally, I thought ours lacked a lot. They were very slow, to the point of being ridiculous on some nights. The main waiter also told us that lemonade cost extra in the dining room, and since then, I have found out that is not true. He also didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink (other than pouring water) and we had to ask him each night. I will say by the middle of the cruise, he got it together and had iced tea and Pellegrino waiting for those who ordered it each night. On past cruises, by the 2nd night, the waiters knew what our preferences were. We also had to ask for coffee each night, rather than the waiters asking us.

I believe if you asked your stateroom attendant, he might have gotten robes for you. On past cruises, we had a small amenities basket with a razor, toothpaste, tylenol, etc included. We didn't receive anything like it this time. But I guess those are things that can be cut without being noticed too much. (except I noticed it--LOL)
