Port Canaveral - how long can you see land?

Since there are no bays or bridges to plan for, how long do you stay out on the deck after sailaway? We would like to see the land disappear - do the ships just go straight east into the ocean, or do you cruise along parallel to shore for a while?

We have not sailed from Port Canaveral....but all the cruises from Fort Lauderdale have gone out to sea quite a few miles before sailing south along the coast.....so the coast will be a sliver on the horizon a long way off.

I am sure they are heading straight out to get past the limits so they can open the casino and shops.

Sailing from Ft Lauderdale we headed straight out until you could barely see the coast.

Port Canaveral was a port on our recent Bahamas & Florida cruise. We had a starboard balcony and coming into port we had some great views of NASA with our bincoulars. As we left we sailed past lots of marinas and could see land for awhile but we didn't really sail along the coast for long.

The casino can open once they get 3 miles out and you can easily see land from that distance. So that's not a factor. Assuming your ship is headed for Nassau, there have been some cruises I've been on when even after dark you can see the city lights of the SE coast of Florida along the horizon. I know the goal is to get across the Gulf Stream as quickly as possible because of all the rocking it causes.

We've only sailed from Port Canaveral once, and IIRC we didn't follow the shore at all. We live about 20 miles south of the port, and by the time the ships get to our area they are hard to see on the horizon. In other words, you may be able to see land, but nothing on it.
