alohanails Posted June 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2008 We are currently booked on The Brilliance this Sept and we are torn....we would like to try my time dining...however only if we can get a table for 2 each night...the idea of first night dinner conversation "every night" just does not appeal to us....For those who have experienced My Time would this be a possibility or would we be doing "open seating" like they do for lunch and breakfast? Thanks in advance! Bonnie

seanlelliott Posted June 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2008 We just returned today from FOS W. Caribbean cruise and signed up prior to embarkation (via phone call to RCI) for My Time Dining (MTD). All gratuities must be prepaid in order to sign up as the MTD wait staff all share the gratuities equally. If you wish to tip a server individually, you will need to hand it to them separately and not with the printed prepaid gratuity voucher. Our request for a table of two was always honored. You may request the same server every meal, but we found that this created delays in seating and service, as that server may be very busy with other parties or large groups. The rapport and relationship that one establishes with one's waiter/assistant waiter may be sacrificed. I have to say that I was not as impressed with the experience as I had anticipated that I would be. It is requested that your party make a "reservation" for the next nights dining time, however, we were told that only about 5% of people were doing this. This resulted in the staff being overwhelmed by sudden rushes of people. We found that when attempting to be seated after the a show, there was often a 10-15 minute wait which often pushed the completion of our dinner to 11:00 pm, a little to late for me. All the while, those with the traditional second seating were walking past us to seat themselves at their assigned tables. Lastly, the majority of dinners utilizing MTD appeared to be couples and groups with children due to the flexibility in choosing dining times based on their childrens needs. The greater number of children coupled with the increased workload placed on the servers made the dining experience rushed, loud and not as enjoyable as in the past. We ended up eating in Chops twice and Portifino's twice as it was much calmer and more relaxing. Please understand that I am not critizing the waitstaff in any way. They did a remarkable job and are continually attempting to fine tune the MTD operations.
