zelly2 Posted June 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2008 Planning to take the Carnival Victory cruise mid Sept. and trying to plan our trip. Need help with reasonable and clean hotel for 2-3 nites before cruise. Also, most reasonable transp. choices for us from airport to hotel and then to port on cruising day. Any other tips will be greatly appreciated as to plays to see, places to eat, and must see while we are for first time to NY. Thanks so much for your wonderful help.;)
cruiser429 Posted June 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2008 Which airport are you flying into? JFK, LGA or EWR. All three service the NYC area--prices to NYC will depend on which one you're at.
zelly2 Posted June 16, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted June 16, 2008 Most likely LGA -- but not definite. Thanks for your help.
Dodsworth Posted June 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2008 If you fly into Newark you can take the monorail to the train station and get a NJ Transit train into Penn Station for about $15. That, I think is the easiest bet.
cruiser429 Posted June 17, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2008 From LGA the taxi fare is not price-fixed but is probably the cheapest way to get into Manhattan (aka "the city".) Taxi from hotel to the port is also your best bet. Check out this thread for hotels http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=764461 None of the hotels in Manhattan are cheap. Have a great time!

duffle Posted June 21, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2008 We live in NYC and from LGA this is what we do: MTA buses stop in front of the terminals. Take the M60 which will take you on 125th street in Harlem. Here you have connection to the 4, 5, 6 trains on Lexington Av for East Side service; 2 and 3 trains on Lenox Av for West Side and Midtown Times Square) service; A, C, B, D trains on St Nicholas Av for West Side service; or the 1 train on Broadway. If there is a MetroCard vending machine or a magazine shop selling MetroCards at the airport then this trip will cost you just $2 pp since the transfer into the subway is included. (Once in the subway system you can transfer all you want.) If you cannot purchase a MetroCard at the airport then you would need $2 pp in coins only to drop into the farebox on the bus. You would then have to pay another $2 pp at the subway entrance.

willysgrandma Posted June 22, 2008 #11 Share Posted June 22, 2008 There are a ton of hotel suggestions here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=579200&highlight=york+timer You will likely not find anything in NYC for less than $250 a night, so I hope that is what you mean by a reasonable hotel.
