Taxi rates from port to Old Town Market in Funchal

Can anyone tell me what the rate might be for a taxi from the port to the old town market in Funchal?

I don't know about taxi fares but it is very walkable for most people. You can see the town from the ship and just follow the harbour around to it. passing the botanical gardens (up some stairs on the left) on the way.

On our recent trip, we found that the rates were regulated TO GET OFF the pier at 7.50 Euro a cab. However to get back to the ship, it was whatever they felt like charging, usually double that.

 

Make sure you negotiate first, not that they were very interested in lowering their prices, even if you were willing to walk away!
