storm15 Posted June 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2008 is it more common after a longer cruise? We are going on a 3 day trip to the Bahamas and will be in port all day 2 days 8-5ish Are we less likely to get this malady than say a 7 day cruiser with more time at sea? I am worried about this as both hubby and son have motion sickness tendancies.
Toyz711 Posted June 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2008 usually it's really minor...just the "bed is moving" feeling when you lay down. i have gotten it on day fishing charters, wobbly legs getting off..took a couple of hours for the body to learn it was on solid land. there's no telling who is going to be affected or how bad. your body gets used to bracing for the ship's motion, plus any engine vibration (even if you don't feel/notice it) the only time DH got it, he had been taking seasick meds all week, the ship had a lot of motion due to rough seas a couple of nights. since that cruise 15 years ago, he has had any problems. i still get it after very long flights, but not after any cruises. 2Cruise4Ever Posted June 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Been off the Dawn for over a week now and the ground is still moving for me. I get it every cruise. I don't get motion sickness during the cruise. Just the off-balance stuff AFTER the cruise. I have vertigo, too. So, that makes it worse. The worst I ever had it was after our first trip on the Dawn 3 years ago: it lasted 6 weeks! I have found that if I sleep more than usual (yeah, right, with 2 kids???), it gets better faster. *Wink* Posted June 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 23, 2008 It's one of the things I look forward to! Crazy, huh? I don't really suffer from sea sickness, though. Since the cruise is pretty short, I don't think your family will suffer too much. Hope that's the case!
FLAlaska Posted June 23, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2008 I dont get seasick but do feel this after the cruise. Usually in the shower or when I bend down to pick something up. Funny though, last cruise I took was a quick 3 day one and dealt with it afterwards for about 3 days. Just got back from 7 days in Alaska and nothing! musicgirl63 Posted June 23, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Mine isn't from the ship, but rather from the train ride home. 12 hours of heavy side to side movements.
ZoneHPH Posted June 23, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2008 yeah i'm feeling a slight sensation in my head. i also tend to have sinus issues. not to mention i did my first resort dive (uncertified dive with divemaster escorts). but this is nothing compared to my post-cruise depression. garycarla Posted June 23, 2008 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2008 There was a message thread about this just a few days ago. You might want to read through that one. Other than the mild symptoms that are linked to this, I had never heard of it before.
voyageofthe Posted June 23, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Agree on the post cruise depression; I really enjoyed the trip. I had ship travel and 9 1/2 hours on the train so I have "landsickness" today too - no seasickness at all during the trip.
bethaniesmom Posted June 23, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2008 we used to get this too...lasted a couple of days, sometimes a little longer....we have found that if you have another cruise booked before getting off the current one that the symptoms are much less severe!
