elou Posted June 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Can anyone tell me if the incline to the fortress is very steep? Really want to see the fortress, but wondering if someone with asthma can do it?
2112 Posted June 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2008 I didn't think it was too bad. Maybe this picture will give you an idea. It was taken from the parking lot: http://www.pbase.com/2112/image/97848603

Aplmac Posted June 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2008 I didn't think it was too bad. Maybe this picture will give you an idea. It was taken from the parking lot: http://www.pbase.com/2112/image/97848603 If you take your time going up (5-10 mins.at the most!) the views at the top will reward you. My wife opted to stay down below pleading arthritis and the effect the climb would have on her knees. ........................................ If you're on Facebook, maybe you could take a look at this Album of mine at... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=28620&l=a396d&id=682113168 most if not all these shots were taken at the summit. ------------------------------- This one should help you make the decision about the climb(it has steps every now and then). By the time you get to the top you're something like about 850 ft. above sea-level, as is obvious from this photo looking towards St.Eustatius
Zeno Posted June 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2008 Yes the walk up is a bit steep but unless you are actually disabled you should be able to do it. I did it - slowly and stopping for rests and I have asthma and arthritis. And it is definitely worth it.
onceagain Posted July 1, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2008 My DH and I did it and we are both overweight and not in shape. We just took our time. It was worth it.
