itstimeforacruise Posted June 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Hi all, I was wondering if it was all right to bring a few cans of soda on board? I don't want to be breaking rules. Thanks.
Toto2Kansas Posted June 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Yes, no problem, especially if they do not sell the brand you enjoy.

Putterdude Posted June 30, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2008 My experience has been yes you can as well as bottled water. We try to limit the amount we bring aboard in each port but I have read where people bring aboard cases.
itstimeforacruise Posted June 30, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Wow, cases? I wouldnt do that. Maybe a 6 pack of coke or something. I dont want to fill my bags with soda/water. :D
hubofhockey Posted June 30, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Wow, cases? I wouldnt do that. Maybe a 6 pack of coke or something. I dont want to fill my bags with soda/water. :D We brought along those little 8 ounce cans (24 of them for the kids - and I gave in and took some in weaker moments). It's a good way to control the soda my kids drink. I don't like the idea of giving them soda cards. I also like the idea of having soda in the room, especially since the mini-suites have fridges. On my last cruise, I had to find extra room in the mini-bar.
janetz Posted June 30, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2008 You can slap a luggage tag on a case of soda, give it to the porter with a tip and it will go right to your cabin with your luggage. You can also bring on 6 packs at any port. :)
dyanalee Posted June 30, 2008 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Yes, no problem, especially if they do not sell the brand you enjoy. When we were on the Diamond Princess in March, we were allowed to bring on as much coke and beer that we wanted. They just passed us right through. The security person told my husband that it was perfectly ok to bring your own beer. So, we bought a 12 pack of each coke and beer.

That could be true, but for me/us, I/we would feel like taking on things they sell onboard is what will soon limit the items we all can carry with us. Abuse of the priviledge is what will take it away completely, so we are quite careful as to things we carry on, that the ship already sells. Think back when others were putting a luggage tag on cases of wine, they now limit (or at least their rules state this) you to one bottle per person. There have been a lot of things that they are watching for now that used to be taken onboard without problem. We just try not to abuse the privledge so maybe they won't limit everything. IMHO of coarse. ;)
tvaud Posted June 30, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Two cruises ago, we took a case of bottled water on board. I just slapped a luggage tag on it and it was delivered to our cabin with no problems. I learned though, that I hardly used any...maybe five bottles at most. Last cruise, I didn't bring anything on board. It's just as easy to get water/soda on board, rather than dragging it with you.

I personally drink Non-Alcoholic beer, and they do not carry the brand that I drink, so to bring my own is not unreasonable and I am not taking away from them in the slightest. When they get $5 for a can of Coors light that my husband drinks, I think they more then make up for what we bring on board.

dyanalee Posted July 1, 2008 #13 Share Posted July 1, 2008 I prefer to drink Pepsi....I still ended up buyng a few cokes...and many Martini's....:D There were many people complaining that they didn't have Pepsi on board, so when we were in port, they brought some back. I usually drink 2 cokes a day. I do not drink alcohol, but, this trip I may just break that rule and have a Pina Colada, I love those things, :D

skf Posted July 1, 2008 #15 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Please take some advice from a long-time grocer...When packing canned soda, remember that the cans are very thin and do break at inconvenient times. No-one wants a soda explosion.
suntan Posted July 1, 2008 #16 Share Posted July 1, 2008 I always take onboard a 6-pack of Diet Coke and a bag of Lays potato chips and have never had a problem bringing them onboard.
