Ryndam Main Deck Aft

Hi All,

I have not sailed HAL before and am on the Ryndam to Alaska on July 16th in cabin 691 (apparently alone, as there is no CC roll call!). There appears to be an outside deck area that can be accessed from the end of the corridor outside our cabin. Is that correct? And can the decks above and below be accessed via outside stairs from this area?

Thanks,

I'm not sure about the deck below you, but you can access from the passageway outside your cabin and once you are there (very nice space indeed) you can access the next deck up which as I recall is the aft swimming pool area. Enjoy!

The outside deck area to which you refer is "Crew only" and appears to be where they can grab a breath of fresh air and/or take a quick break.

Help me understand this. On all of the cruises I have been on, when you see a sign that is near the front of the ship that says "crew only", it leads to a deck that you will find lots of passengers on. Often, I have heard folks ask officers if they can go out on the deck and they always say "sure". So......anyone know the real facts about these "crew only" decks. gg

The aft pool is five decks up from cabin 691.

When your ship is doing "scenic cruising" at slow speed (as in the Panama Canal or at AK glaciers for example) the bow and other areas that are normally restricted are opened up for passenger access. Similarly, when docked, it is possible to be granted permission to go to such areas. Other than under those conditions, you should not pass "Crew Only" signs. :)

OK....that makes perfect sense, now. I think the times I have been through those "crew only" doors have been when we were at Glacier Bay or the other glacier tours. On our first cruise on the old Commodore cruise line.....someone showed us how to go out thru a door in the casino....hidden by some drapes. This opened onto a wonderful, very private deck, that few knew about. It was not lit at all, so the stars were incredibly brilliant from that area. I love the secrets that all ships have. Thank you for sharing your information with us. gg

My apologies - should have looked more closely at the cabin number. I do recall access to the stern area from the "B" cabin deck when we were last on the Veendam which I assume would be identical on the Ryndam,
