Alaska for couple in early 30s???

Recommended Posts

Hello! My husband and I are seriously considering taking the Seranade of the Seas 7 day RT Vancouver Alaskan cruise next summer. We are hooked on cruises, have typically done the Caribbean, but are ready for a new adventure. Are we going to be bored at night with the entertainment though?? We don't go to all the shows but enjoy them a few nights, expecially the comedians, which is why RCCL is one of our favorites. Is the entertainment geared towards a more older crowd? Do people still hang out at night and use the club etc?

Just curious, I don't think it'll deter us either way but I'd like to at least set our expectations appropriately.

THANK YOU!!! :D

Hello - My SO and I (late 20's) are heading to Alaska in August. I don't think I have ever been so excited about a cruise! There are so many active things to do, hiking, dog sledding, bear watching, whale watching, glacier trekking, kayaking, etc. You should head over to the Alaska boards and pick up Frommers Alaska, you will be amazed! I think you should definitly go for it. Being young gives you many years to go back and do all of the things you couldn't do the first time.

My DH and I were 39 and 41 this time last year on our AK cruise, Serenade.

You will fit right in, lots of different ages on board and something completely different from the Caribbean. We had a great time, had our 3 teens with us, they had a good time too. You won't be bored with the entertainment at all. Just bring your camera and binochulars and you'll be all set for the most beautiful scenery you will ever lay your eye's on!

Have fun :)

I definitely think you will enjoy the Alaskan cruise. I went on an Alaskan cruise when I was still single and 34 with my parents, my sister and my brother-in-law and had a wonderful time! Go and enjoy!!

I just sailed on the Serenade to Alaska in May. I am 23, my brother 22, his friend 21. My parents and grandmother also went. While there were alot of older people, there were still people up in the club at night --we had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat!

YOU WILL NOT BE BORED. One thing to remember the sun doesn't go down until 11pm to 12am, and comes up around 4am or 5am. The cruise we were on the older crowd partied just as much as we did. Some of them we couldn't even keep up with:D I believe everyone should save up and take the Alaskan cruise at least once in their life time.

If you've done Alaska right, you'll be so exhausted from your time on shore and gazing at the amazing surroundings that you'll find yourself in bed much earlier than you thought and won't miss the entertainment at all! ;)

There is plenty of entertainment and we never went to bed before 2am and I am much older then the OP. It is one of the reasons we choose late seating so we have time for a nap when we return from port. :D;)

Ok, when we went we were in our early thirties and it was pre kids. We were a very "late night" couple. There is a big difference between the alaska cruise and other "beachy" cruises. The entertainment and the shows are very much the same, however. We had late seating for dinner (we always pick this one) and after dinner, besides the shows, it was pretty "dead". There were very few people in the bars. We were not used to that as our other cruise they were always packed (or at least a good amount of people). Not very lively. Even the casinos were empty earlier.

All that being said, don't worry about it!! An Alaska cruise is so amazing you won't even think about the rest. The excursions, in my opinion, are better than any other destination and the scenery is UNBELIEVABLE. It is a different kind of cruise, but it's "good different". We will go back again. You will have SO MUCH FUN!

I was on the Serenade last year, and I have to admit the night club in the Vortex was dead every night except for 80's night (are you listening people - quit with the rap/hip hop stuff already)!:p

Same with us dirtgirl! 80's night was good but.........rap and the hip/hop????

(lol)

You were on the Serenade one month after we got off:D

Some DJ's just don't realize that old farts like me like to dance - just to something a little more classic. If they would mix it up more, everyone would be happy, and not just the the people in their 20's!

I'd be shaking it right along with ya!!:D The busiest nights in the nightclubs are always 70's and 80's nights - you would think they would learn from that, but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo:rolleyes:

I am 37 and my husband turned 39 on our May Serenade cruise to Alaska. We loved this cruise and would definitely recommend it to others in their 30's.

That being said, the entertainment on this ship was disapointing compared to our other RCI cruises. Not much happening after 11 and lots of people were complaining about it, young and old alike. Our cruise director was Carly and I found her and her staff to be virtually non-existant, with little in the way of day or evening activities on offer (perhaps because this was a 14-day repositioning cruise?).

In terms of the acts; however, some were particularly suited to a younger audience. We had an excellent commedic magic act and two very young, funny and energetic jugglers. The Diamonds also performed, and while their music is not exactly to our taste, they put on a great show. Other acts were just painful (picture the guy who sang the Happy Days theme song with a show in which he performed variations of his one hit half a dozen times).

What others have said though is true- there is so much to do in Alaska, that you might not miss the evening fun. Look for a cruise that has long port times so that you can make as much as you can of the great outdoors.

I would still recommend the Serenade. It is a beautiful ship, the food was good, and the staff (except for the activities crew) was the best we have had on our 3 RCI cruises.

Cheers,

Just back from Alaska on Radiance. I'm in my mid 30's and was bored. I too am a caribbean cruiser and am used to the pool parties, etc. These, of course, do not exist on the Alaska cruises. I'm also more partial to the larger ships.

Alaska was a beautiful place but I found we spent much of our time sitting, looking out the windows and watching the waves go by. Our CD was not the best and the shows were ok. The excursions were out of this world and made up for the time onboard. I think everyone needs to do Alaska once but I, myself, would not return.
