Ephraim Posted July 8, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2008 No, they aren't in the same place, but they are connected. St-Martin, France is half the island and is part of provincial France. The language is French and the currency is the Euro. They used to be part of Guadaloupe province, but seperated from them a few years ago. Sint Maarten, Netherland Atilles is the other half of the island is is part of the Netherland Antilles. The language is Dutch and the currency is the Netherland Antilles Guilder (also sometimes called the Florin). Both countries share and open border and certain services but there is clearly a border between them and you can see the demarkation when you cross it. Their histories are inexoribaly linked. 98Charlie Posted July 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2008 Both the French side and the Dutch side have varied things to offer a new visitor. You can hire a taxi from the port (which is on the Dutch side) and visit the French side for a few hours and then come back to the Dutch side for awhile. DH & I have been to the island 6 or more times and still haven't seen all there is to do and see there. We'll be back to the island on cruises 2 times next year. Can't wait !
