Customs in St. Thomas

I know that we will have to go through customs in St. Thomas in August since we will be in HMC first. My question is... will we have time to bring our passports back to our room on deck 10 for an 8:15 excursion booked through carnival when we supposably dock at 8:00? If we don't has anyone gone on the Christmas Cove sailing and snorkeling catamaran excursion and can tell me that our things should be well cared for (of course we will put our Passports in ziplocc)?

Yes, you can go back and put up your Passport after you go through Immigration on the ship when you arrive in St. Thomas. Might be cutting it a little close on the 8:15 excursion. But you will be able to go through first since you have an early booking.
