Would this work for elegant night on Carnival?

I tried to post pictures, and I can't do it, so I'm going to describe what I'm thinking of wearing. After looking at the pictures, my one dress makes me look fat, so does this sound like I can get away with this for Elegant night: a shiny red shirt and a shiny black skirt that goes about mid-bottom of leg. TIA!

You won't just be "getting away with something", you'll be perfectly fine.

You will see many ladies dressed less dressy than that! Go for it. Carnival has very relaxed dress suggestions.

Sounds fine, as others have said, Carnival has decided to be less formal. Just don't wear it with tennis shoes and you will be fine!:D
