Dreaming of Hawaii

Oh do I want to go again - we were on Pride of Aloha last February, fell in love with Hawaii and knew that I would be back. Unfortunately with the increasing price of airfare and the only ship left being twice as expensive for 3 days less, I am having a very hard time justifying the trip. Anyone else feeling the same as I do?? I guess we will be back to the Caribbean again, just hate to give up the idea of going back to Hawaii.

I REALLY feel your pain.

I actually have booked my husband, son and son's friend on a Majesty cruise in January.

I booked myself, my daughter and her friend on a Majesty cruise in April.

Now that my son is starting college the kids' vacations don't coincide anymore.

We'll be driving from Massachusetts to SC. Even with the price of gas these two seperate cruises for 6 people will be less than half the price of the four of us going on the Hawaii cruise and staying in the least expensive inside room.

Same here, the 12-15 day cruise to Hawaii is our dream cruise(well, one of them anyway), but it will be a few years before that happens. We spent a week in Kauai and loved it, made a wonderful lasting impression. Meanwhile, I guess I'll keep reading the reviews and CC and dream....

Hi Tara - we were on the Hawaii cruise together - glad to hear you have other vacations booked. We're considering driving to Florida for a few weeks in February and doing a week on the Dawn, also thought about adding the Sky for a few days along with the Dawn but haven't booked anything yet. I just have to get over wanting to go back to Hawaii.

I knew/know who you were. I really do feel your pain.

Bruce is going to Alaska next year - I think on the Pearl. That's another cruise I would like to do, but not as bad as Hawaii.

Alaska would be great, but I have a hard time convincing Bob to leave Michigan during the summer. The winter is when we really need to escape. Maybe someday we will do Alaska but I think it will be some years down the road. I know I have to find a cruise to use my "Future Booking" and my Rewards points. Even factoring in those, Hawaii is still way more expensive than last years trip. I have to "GET OVER IT".

Yes, we're feeling the pain, too. Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go back to Hawaii, but are going to the Western Caribbean instead.

Hawaii is more than 2x the price of the Caribbean. Flights are double and the cruise is more than double.....

Darn, hope something changes soon. Anybody know how (or if) this is affecting Hawaii?

I'd suggest you watch airfares and maybe think about a land-based visit, while watching the prices on future NCLA cruise for the next few months. So far the ship has been sailing full and the prices have remained rock steady, but remember that the Pride of America had to absorb all the bookings from the Pride of Aloha. It remains to be seen how "firm" those future prices are, if you have your heart set on another intra-Hawaii cruise.

For us, we loved our cruise (as my review indicated) but now we want to do a land-based visit. Airfares for next summer from the East Coast so far (we want to go in July and only June fares have been published so far) are actually very do-able for us. They are lower than they were two years ago, in fact. Again I stress that this is SO FAR. I've also had numerous awesome offers for land-based visits to Hawaii in my email in recent weeks -- I can't take them due to work commitments, but if you are flexible with timing, you might find some great deals just by searching some of the mainstream travel sites.

And yes, I feel the same as you! ;) I'm sort of on pins and needles hoping that when the July '09 fares are released they remain as reasonable as what we've seen so far for June, because I can't wait to return to Hawaii. We can cruise the Caribbean more cheaply than many other vacation choices, and we do -- but Hawaii is where I want to be, no doubt! :)

I feel your pain also :( .

We loved our NCLA Pride of Hawaii cruise, and would love to take another cruise around the islands...someday. Hopefully the NCLA ship will do well and continue operation there.

Maybe by the time hubby and I can make it back to Hawaii (hopefully with more time - and money ) the line will have added an extra day to the itinerary :) .

The only thing that could make this cruise better, imho, would be having a day at sea for relaxing and exploring the ship and all it has to offer  . Maybe sail around the islands the ship doesn't port in, or into waters where an on-board casino could operate, even for a little while.

Long flights and time changes are a killer when doing this trip, so a leisurely day onboard would be the icing on the cake - for the passengers AND on-board sales. Just don't cut down time in ports!

We were all so fortunate to go when we did. Before the higher prices, only having 1 ship, shaky economy, fuel prices, etc.

Happy cruising!
