When are the Fall colors?

We'll be on the land portion of our tour August 18-23 and the cruise from August 23-30 from Whittier to Vancouver. At home, we'd be getting a bit of Fall color by the end of August/early September. That made me wonder about the timing in Alaska. When are the Fall colors usually out?

Denali Park, but you are probably too early?? The "season" is extremely short for the colors and my Sept trips, have always had the colors, my August trips, seldom, and those were the last week, never in mid August.

If you look at the mountains, above the tree line, you will see the lichens turning creamy colored later in the summer, and the start of the fall colors will start to turn red. You will probably see this in August if you look for it.

Thanks for the info! We'll be looking for color but won't be too disappointed if we don't see it. I was more curious than anything else guessing that Fall in Alaska would be much earlier than Fall at home.
