Look on the British Isles board. There are actually a number of threads there on this very subject. Some very helpful posts give detailed instructions on how to do it economically via train or bus, as well as the estimated cost.

 

Or, there are other posts with the names and email addresses of a number of recommended private car services. The private car option will probably run you 150 Pounds and up (for the car, not per person).

We were picked up at Dover and taken to a friend's home very close to Gatwick by van (seven seater) and it cost us 110 pounds. It should cost less for a sedan car for two people. This price was slightly discounted since we had used the same company for our transportation from Heathrow to Dover.

:) when will you be making the trip and is it round trip or one-way? we are doing national rail from gtw(gatwick airport) to dover priory (train station name of dover) aug 28 and return sept 11 and it will cost us 29pound 10 pence r/t p/p..which comes to about $58 r/t...a far cry from $170 that the cruise line charges and the cruise line will only pick you up on cruise day....hope this helps

We are not cruising until May of next year...I'm doing the "budget" now. Not sure yet if we are doing a round trip or going to my daughter's home for a few days afterards.

 

Fo those of you that have used the train, is it difficult to do with 2 large suitcases each ??

We utilized Allportcars for our recent transfers. Gatwick to Dover and then Dover to Central London hotel. A car for 4 w 4 large and 4 carry-ons cost us 90 GBP for each leg of the journey. They are located in Canterbury and Dover and we found them to be very good. Good luck, DMaugle
