Wind Surf Review, Venice-Rome 7/6-7/12

Last year Athens to Istanbul on Wind Spirit, this year Venice-Rome on Wind Surf. While last year's ports of call (Greek Isles) were far superior, we liked the Wind Surf much more than the Wind Spirit. On the Surf, there were 2 pools large enough to actually use, and the fitness center was excellent, for a small ship. In addition, the dining options were much better. We love these MSY's (motorized sailing yachts), but the Wind Surf is not the first class luxury ship it should be. Its age is showing, and signs of rust and missing screws are everywhere. It needs an overhaul. In addition, dinners are institutional and unimaginative. All the fish is frozen and dried out. In addition, the waiters will not make modifications to satisfy guests wishes. In Le Marche, no substitutions were allowed, because all meals were pre-prepared. Getting some fresh berries for desert proved to be a great challange for the wait staff. It took management to secure the berries. The ports of call were ok, but not great. We enjoyed Korcula and Dubrovnik, but Corfu was a waste of time, unless you took a very costly excursion. Also be aware that many of the passengers may be parts of incentive groups. At least 130 of the 313 passengers were with 3 groups. Finally, we loved the cruise, met lots of nice people, but would not be likely to take Wind Star again. For the price, we expect better.
