Smoking banned inside Ventura, Oceana, Artemis

London

Recommended Posts

From October there will be no smoking anywhere inside Ventura, Oceana or Artemis.

Smoking will be allowed on cabin balconies and in designated outside areas only.

Can I ask, where have you got this information from? I can't see anything about it on the P&O website.

Here is announcement:

Changes to P&O Cruises smoking policy

For all of us at P&O Cruises the safety, comfort and enjoyment of our

passengers has always been a prime concern. With this in mind, and as

a direct result of the feedback we have received from a great many of

our passengers, we have taken the decision to amend our policy with

regard to smoking on board Ventura, Oceana and Artemis. The following

policy will, therefore, now apply to each of these ships:

Ventura, Oceana and Artemis:

A complete smoking ban will be enforced in all cabins and inside

public spaces. Smoking will, however, still be permitted on cabin

balconies and on certain areas of the open deck. This new policy will

take effect from the following cruise numbers:

Ventura - N817 (10 October 2008)

Oceana - E825 (31 October 2008)

Artemis - P818 (13 December 2008)

This is not good news for non smokers who have a balcony cabin.like us.... there will now be lots more smokers in balcony cabins - who will obviously be out on their balconies having their puffs....

We had a balcony on Arcadia last year and the experience was totally ruined by chain smokers on balconies either side puffing away all day. We even got up very early one morning to enjoy a sail in but to no avail the smokers were already there. As soon as we opened the balcony doors the smoke came straight in the cabin. The enjoyment of a balcony was totally ruined and we ended up spending most of the time on deck. What a waste of money.

Thanks for this. The new policy takes effect from the cruise after ours (Ventura).

Overall I don't know what to think. I can see your point about increased smoking on the balconies (we've never been in a balcony cabin yet), but at the same time we would very much have liked to use The Exchange. If smoking is allowed in it, we won't be there, and that's the way it looks as if it will be on N816.

if you are a non-smoker the exchange is an absolute no go area and if you are really adverse so is the casino because it is right next to the exchange! there is no extraction for the smoke so it is almost always blue in there and then wafts through to the casino.

My friends, who are smokers, have just got off and said that it was almost to bad for them to use.

We never used the exchange at all because of it.

I think that lots more people will use the prom deck because you can smoke on one side.

I would have thought adequate extraction would keep everyone happy....not rocket science.....well perhaps it is for P&O

I'd have a thought a half & half (or whatever proportion works) deal on the cabins would have been fairer (though they would have to wait for a new brochure so people could actually book smoking & non smoking cabins)

I have to say, as a non smoker, the only issues I've ever had on a ship are out on DECK (QE2 doesn't restrict smoking on deck at all). Balcony smoking would irritate too if I had one next door:o

I could have said 'yay - inside cabins will be cheaper':D - but I've just got a partner who likes the look of the suites & balconies:rolleyes: & the prices are bound to go up on those!

So bad news for smokers and non-smokers really :( (IMHO :) )

Not really as it still does not stop somone sitting near you blowing smoke your way or having their fag smoldering near your face. I wish smokers realised how rude this is. Urinating on people would be more hyginic and lets face it no-one has ever caught cancer from urine.

As a musician the smoking ban in the UK has ment I can go about my job without having to passive smoke. I was recently on Carnival Splendour and the robusto bar was filled with smoke every night, I felt so sorry for the musicians in there who had to put up with it. I also missed out on their performances because I could not stand the smoke.

Had confirmation from Travel Trade that this is the new policy.

Not giving a lot of time for anyone unhappy with it to make alternative arrangements. Big likelihood that balcony smoking will be banned within the year.

I am not risking that so cancelling now.

Absolutely; just returned from a Marco Polo cruise (very good, by the way). One of the larger bars was one side smoking, one side non-smoking, but it had incredibly efficient extractors. We were joined by uncomplaining non-smokers every evening, as even on the smoking side it dealt with smoke superbly. There was absolutely no trace whatsoever on the non-smoking side.

Marco Polo is a pretty elderly ship; if they can do it, why can't others?

I put a question onto the Princess forum about smoke extraction in the casino area of the 'Grand' class ships (in those ships, the area occupied by The Exchange on Ventura is all casino). Apparently smoking is allowed in these casinos, and they are well-known as liable to become particularly smoky. So smoke extraction from this space may be an issue generally with this class of ship, and not just a Ventura/P&O issue at all.

Extraction fans may remove the obvious smoke from the room but all the harmful chemicals linger on. I think its fantastic news (sorry for the balcony peeps) l cant breathe if lm near a smokey atmosphere and l certainly dont want to be exposed to the 4000 life threating chemicals that each fag contains.

My letter came today about the new policy and l really was pleased.:D

Well, I'm not delighted !

Before this announcement I could avoid smokers by not going to their part of the ship or room where they were allowed to smoke, like The Rising Sun on Arcadia'

Now I will probabaly be surrounded by smokers on my balcony....

I preferred the old arrangement - let them have their pub space and other designated areas...

Don't worry Sue

P&O will wait until they have sold the majority of 2009 cruises AND THEN impose a balcony smoking ban.

They don't miss a trick, just look how they left it until all the deals had gone before they informed the Oceana 2 week Christmas cruisers that they had 'pulled the plug'
