Rare Copper10-8 Posted July 28, 2008 #26 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Following up with what Bill's saying, here's a pic of our escort out of Rotterdam - it's one of the Rotterdam Port Authority black & yellow fireboats that pretty much preceded us a long way down the Nieuwe Maas river almost to (but no quite) towards Hoek van Holland
Rare Copper10-8 Posted July 28, 2008 #27 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Pic of that same fireboat (without the water canons in operation) along with another of our escorts that day, the Rotterdam "Zeehaven Politie" (Sea Habor Police) Patrol Boat P-
Rare Copper10-8 Posted July 28, 2008 #28 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Queen Beatrix being escorted to her waiting vehicle by Eurodam's H/M Stan Kuppens (left) and Capt. van Donselaar (partially obscured on the right). This took place after her VIP visit to the Bridge on Eurodam's "Dedication day" on 01 JUL
Mary Ellen Posted July 28, 2008 #29 Share Posted July 28, 2008 We also had a fantastic fireworks display by the city of Hamburg in honor of the E'dam's maiden call. After that, we had no special events at any of the other ports...Bill - there were small ceremonies at each port with the ships Captain, Hotel Manager, local officials... in the side area off the Crow's Nest. These weren't public affairs. We didn't get off in all the ports and happened to see a few of these. If we hadn't been in the Crow's Nest at the time, we'd never of known about them. A ship's photographer was at each and took plenty of pictures.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted July 28, 2008 #30 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Also part of Eurodam's inaugural visit to Rotterdam was a performance by Shanty Choir "Albatross" who positioned themselves on the balcony of Rotterdam's cruise terminal on 02 JUL, departure day of Eurodam on her 3-day prelude cruise. Stuff like "What will we do with the drunken sailor" came out loud and clear!;)

iluvcrusin Posted July 30, 2008 #36 Share Posted July 30, 2008 There are often lots of visitors aboard when the ship calls in a new port. You'll see them around the ship wearing a Visitor badge. They're most visible in Lido. :) Can anyone tell me how you can become a "visitor" on ships when they are in port? We would like to visit the Eurodam when she visits Halifax, Nova Scotia but are not sure how to go about it. Do you contact HAL or the port/shore agent of the city the ship is visiting? Best is to contact your travelagent. Often travelagents are invited to bring some of their clients (future-customers ?) for a visit to the ship. That way we have seen some ships on the inside, sometimes incl. a snack or lunch.
