IslandToIsland Posted July 26, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Is there a way to tell what side of the ship is port side? Or does it vary?
MidlothianCruiser Posted July 26, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Port is always left. Starboard is right. It's based on facing towards the bow (front) of the ship.
crzndeb Posted July 26, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Port is the left side of ship...4 letters in port, 4 letters in left. That's how I remember.
LHP Posted July 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Port is the LEFT side. Just remember port and left both have 4 letters.
yst347 Posted July 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Port side of a ship is the side on your left when facing the front of the ship. On Carnival ships the even numbered cabins are located on the port side. An easy way to remember is Port, Left and Even are all four letter words. :)

terri910 Posted July 26, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 26, 2008 be aware, though, that the ship does not ALWAYS dock with the port side on the side of the port!
dan40 Posted July 26, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Just to end all confusion, If a ship is docked with its port side next to the dock, it is docked with its port side portside to. If the starboard side is to the dock, it is docked, starboard side portside to. Nothing to it.:D Dan
