Smoking

My wife and I have just returned from an awful cruse with Thomson on board " Destiny ". After we booked our holiday Thomson changed the smoking policy making it virtually a non smoking ship.

We are now looking to book a new cruise where we can smoke in our cabin, casino and at least 1 inside bar.

Does anyone know what P&O policies are on smoking?

P&O are indroducing a no smoking policy inside the ship on Ventura, Oceana and Artemis. That does give you 3 other ships to sail on at present, but who knows when they will intoduce the policy on those as well.

At present RCI allow smoking only on your balcony not your room, again this is under review. You can smoke in the casino and designated areas of bars.

don't think there's any smoking in any of the casino's.

no smoking in any cabin's on oceana, artemis, ventura.

was smoking on port side prom deck but that might change.

believe me it's easier if you stop mate.

was one bar on arcadia, last year on oriana was three but that could have changed now.

happy cruising

The pub on Arcadia permitted smoking in May this year. However, the extraction is very poor and even I, an enthusiastic smoker, found it utterly ghastly. That is the problem with herding us all into one small area.

You know, there's two sides to every matter.

Some time ago, my wife and I cruised on Destiny and found it unbearably smoky in some areas.

Now that Thomson have acted, maybe I'll cruise with them again.

Just thrown the letter away but I think you can add Aurora to the list.

I think they now permit smoking on balconies and some deck areas and that is it as it has become very popular for non-smoking. In other words we non-smokers are calling more profitable.

There is certainly less cleaning required - ash trays etc - and possibly less redecoration. Unseen there is probably less work required on the air conditioning filters too.

Overall there are more financial benefits for the company with a non-smoking policy than from allowing smokers.

Stop smoking. You know smoking kills.:D

Besides my clothes don't smell from others stale cigarette smoke. :)

Try Cunard.

Just got back from QE2, stale smoke smell in cabin.

Having read the Cunard book, it still seems to be a smoking friendly cruise line.

Gail

Gail, QE2 has a more liberal smoking policy than QM2 and QV, in particular, where the smoking policy is fairly restricted. The OP has asked the same question on the Cunard boards, but answers are not terribly forthcoming. No excuse for stale smoke smell in cabin, however; the steward should have been able to deal with it pretty rapidly.

Princess policy taken from NEW 2009/10 brochure

To ensure that all passengers feel comfortable while on board we have adopted the following smoking policy

smoking is NOT permitted in the restaurant main showlounges,or theatres. However smoking IS permitted in designated areas in other public rooms and in your stateroom. We ask all passengers refrain from smoking cigars and pipes anywhere indoors, although this is permitted on the outer decks

Hope this helps

According to the latest Cunard brochure, smoking is permitted in Churchill's Cigar Lounge and the Empire Casino and certain places on deck.

'On board both ships, smoking is permitted in staterooms.'

Hi Banjoman,

sailed on P&O's Oriana at the end of May.

You could smoke in your cabin and on one side of the Crows Nest bar.

Last month we went on Carnival's Splendor and you could smoke in nearly every bar and inside cabins.Seems Carnival has a much more relaxed smoking policy than most ships.

Hope this helps.

P&O Cruises trio going smoke free

24th. July 2008

===============================================

P&O Cruises is to go smoke free in all inside areas on board three of the ships in the fleet.

As of October two family-friendly ships, Oceana & Ventura, and adult-only Artemis will be no smoking in all inside spaces.

There will be allocated outside smoking areas on all ships, and passengers will be able to smoke on their cabin balconies.

P&O Cruises managing director, Nigel Esdale, said: ‘Since Britain went smoke free in July 2007

the British public has become accustomed to being in a smoke free environment.’

He continued, ‘We hope that becoming smoke free will give all our passengers, especially children

a cleaner and more pleasant environment in which at enjoy their holiday on board.’

According to Esdale, Ventura and Oceana which are both child friendly

could between them have more than 1,000 children on board at any one time

‘therefore we want to ensure they are breathing clean air on board as well as clean ocean air out on open deck,’ he remarked.

Stop Smoking. you know it kills!

What are you? -suicidal?

How wonderful! An adults-only cruise on our dear former Royal Princess with cabins that will not smell of stale smoke. We are very pleased.

I hope that there are smoking restrictions in place on part of the outside decks, too.

We hope and trust our meager American dollars will still be welcome.
