Just curious for those of you who are Platinum Guests -

Do you get dirty looks for walking right up to the Concierge Desk ?

For walking past everyone at port for your excursion ?

For simply having a platinum card, and getting dirty stares ?

I sure hope so!!!

I can't wait to get mine....LOL

In all reality its not that difficult to get to platinum if you really want to. But for some reason that number doesn't seem to be climbing all that fast. Since I found cruising in May of 2006, I have been on six cruises and I have one more planned still for this year. Had I stuck all with Carnival I would have been pretty close and probably would have been there within the next year or two. I really don't know why everyone gets so stressed, please you are on a cruise, if the worst thing that happens to you in a day is you stand in line for 20 minutes then grow up. If you don't like it come back at 3am when the atrium is generally empty, otherwise don't complain, especially when someone who has shown their loyalty to a cruise line by cruising enough to get to Platinum. I am always surprised by just how many first time cruisers there are on board, I guess us CC's are the addicts.

Never had a problem, other than envious stares. We rarely need to use the concierge desk however. I wouldn't bother even trying to explain why I was bypassing the line. Let them wonder, especially if they can't read the sign that says Concierge".

I'm glad this topic came up... I haven't cruised yet (just under 6 weeks to go now) but I don't want to give anyone a dirty look for cutting in line if they are supposed to!

And thanks for the differentiation between "Purser's Desk" and "Concierge"... I don't want to go to the wrong place, either! :)

If they have something that is clearly marked for Platinum members, then people might better understand. I get to go to the "preferred" line at the airports all the time, but it's marked that way. Same with certain airports that have security lines specifically for preferred members. But now that I know this, I'll be sure not to wonder what they heck they're doing if they "go to the head of the class" ;)

I think a lot of people standing in a long line tend to get frustrated. And when someone just walks up past everyone- and from some of the posts I have seen here probably with a smug attitude- I am sure the people in the line get angry. Everyone hates it when there is a big line and there is that one person who thinks they don't have to wait like everyone else and tries to break in the line. Those people probably have no idea it is a platinum passenger. Carnival could avoid those issues by having a seperate line that was well posted.

I agree and think Carnival should completely separate the two lines. The only thing that bothered us when the platinum passenger was being harassed is even after the purser desk was to trying to explain the concierge/platinum benefit the other passengers could care less.

I try not to use the Platinum line at the Purser's desk unless there is more than one Purser working.

As far as looks go, I think "curiosity" would be a better word to use.

When there were 2,000 people trying to board the Holiday all at the same time the day Embarkation got backed up 5 hours....there were lots of curious looks as to why they were stopping the "regular" line to allow this family of three to go ahead.

It is just the way people are. But many service companies that we use, such as hotels and car rental, have a completely seperate line for regular customers. We were on an Air Canada flight from FLL last Feb. The line up in the AM was right out the terminal. I happened to notice that there was absolutley no line for those who had done web check in and printed their boarding passes-which we had done the night before.. We bypassed everyone. I never really noticed, but DW said we go lots and lots of bad looks. Not my problem if people do not take advantage of what is available-and available to everyone not just frequent flyers.

We've fortunately not been exposed to dirty looks. At embarkation they always have the separate check-in for Platinum so we take advanatage of that. As far as the concierge desk, we tend to go on the newer ships which have all had the separate section at the purser's office for "concierge" services. The only perk I've been unwilling to take advantage of this priority tendering. On tender days the lines back up in the hallways starting at deck 2 going all the way down to deck 0. There's no way we're going to push through all those people saying "excuse me.. we're platinum"... I have just recently read on another post that you can go to purser's desk and be escorted to the front of the line. Anyone experience that?

Yes, and I get them too on the fast pass line at Disney, and I don't give a rat's azz.

I had one lady question me as to why I didn't get to the back of the line. I showed her my card and she was like "oh you're platinum" The line says platinum or concierge. I had one little girl in the tender line say "that's cheating" when we were walked to the front of the line. I love that perk the best. No waiting on the endless stairs.

I had a lady on the Fantasy get upset with me when I entered the lane for Platinum at the Purser's desk. She told me the line for the Purser was at the end of the other 8 people. I showed her my card and told her I am in the correct location. She didnt say anything else but you could see the fire burning.

I think that if they have a platinum card, they've spent their money on ten cruises and have earned their perks. I'm going to be halfway there on my next cruise and can hardly wait!:D

Thanks Cindy your comment will help Platinum feel more comfortable using there benefits, at least it helps me.:)

Usually only when you walk up to the head of the line when you need to talk to the Maitre'd when getting a table change. There is always a Non-Platinum holder in the Concierge line in front of me.

Fred

Fred: I've read on threads a couple times that you walked to the front of the line to speak with the Maitre'd about your table. I'm Platinum too but never new they can be helped by Maitre'd before others like at the Concierge desk. I always wait in that line and how did you learn it's OK? I'll try it in 3 weeks on the Liberty.:)

I agree that people should speak out and complain if someone is cutting in line, and many probably have no idea that platinum cruisers have their own line.

There should be a separate desk to prevent misunderstandings, maybe with a red carpet like for Hilton Honours :D

Do you mean something like this?

When Carnival began the Platinum program, the lack of a clearly designated line was a problem. Now all ships do have clearly designated lines at the purser's desk. I personally have never noticed any dirty looks while in the Platinum line or while enjoying priority tendering but I wasn't looking for them either. If the general line is short I just wait a minute or two in it, rather than parade myself as "platinum" anyway. ;)

We were being escorted by a social host for priority debarkation with about twenty people. Because all the rest of the ship had decided to line up on the steps to wait for their number to be called instead of finding a nice place to sit, we had to walk through the throngs on the steps. We had people call us names and actually throw things at us. It got pretty ugly. The thing I thought was interesting is that they couldn't get off the ship until we got off so by slowing us down they mde their wait longer. One guy even stepped in front of us and said you are not getting by me. The cewmember had to tell him to move out of the way. It was not a fun way to end our cruise. Cindy

I'm working hard to get my Platinum card, so I can receive those dirty looks, too. (I hope for this to happen in Nov. 09.)

But I do have a question for you Platinum cruisers. Do you wear your Platinum card on a lanyard, so people can easily identify your status? I would feel much better about seeing you pass me up in a long line, if I could see that you are wearing a silver S&S. Then I would know that you weren't just some self centered jerk who breaks in line. (There are plenty of those people onboard, too!) You can bet that when I get my silver S&S, I'll have it out there for all to see! :o I will have earned it! :D

I don't wear my card on a lanyard because I find things dangling from my neck uncomfortable. I don't wear my security badge at work this way for the same reason, though many others do. As I said before though, I have never noticed any "dirty looks".

Since one of the Platinum perks is a guarantee to get your preferred Dining, I would think it is almost necessary for a Platinum member that needs a Dining change to go straight to the front of the line. Otherwise, the Maitre 'd may have to go back and make changes to changes he already made, in order to accommodate the Platinum guarantee.

I have no problem with there being a special line for million mile flyers or concierge services for 75 night per year hotel guests.

I have both of those...and it is so funny when people flip out because I can cash a check at Marriott or get access to a lounge.

them - "What makes them so special that they can cash your check and not mine"

me - "try living in a hotel an average of 110 nights a year and then come talk to me"

the moral of the story is....these privilages arent just handed out for free, and if someone has a problem with it...it is just that, their problem

I think we've only had reason to use the Concierge Desk once since becoming Platinum, and it was sweet because of the circumstances. We were clearly headed to the Purser's Desk and these two youngsters (appeared to be around 12 or 13 years old) pushed past us to get ahead of us. The one Purser that we could see on duty was just finishing up with a guest and the youngsters were first in line behind that guest. We arrived at the desk and got in the Platinum line a few seconds later and just before the purser finished up with the guest she was attending to. I absolutely LOVED the look on those boys' faces when the purser came to us first.

I am not platinum yet, I have three more to book and the third will be platinum! I am looking forward to that when it does happen, oh yes...

We had a suite on the Conquest and had VIP boarding. We went into the building and said we are VIP and I asked if we had to stand in line with everyone else for security. He said follow me and we went straight through and passed around 200 or 300 people waiting to be screened. Yes, I did see some head shaking and nasty looks, but I booked a suite and I paid for VIP boarding. Then when it came time to board the ship, which did take an extra 20 minutes from the time we got there, the rather large crowd had that "and why are they so special" look when the Carnival rep said VIP's first and the 20 or so waiting in the VIP area went ahead of everyone else. A wedding party went ahead of everyone because the party fairly large they let them go first...I had no problem as they went straight to their reception in the conference room.

People don't read the back of the brochure enough to read the VIP part of cruising. Sometimes people have to moan and groan just for the sake of it....I don't because I know I am on holiday and I could be at work instead...I say no worries and just go with the flow..
