San Pedro raxi availability to rental car

We will be returning to San Pedro on a Sunday on Vision of the Seas and want to rent a car to be able to spend a day in San Diego.

What rental comany should we use, taking into account both the distance from the pier, availability on a Sunday, and possible drop-off charges for the "one-way" rental?

Also, will it be relatively easy to get a taxi at the port to take us to the rental car location, or, even better, do any of the rental companies offer a shuttle?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I assume you are flying out of San Diego? When? It is at least a 2 hour drive from Long Beach or San Pedro to San Diego.

You might just want to have one person in your party take a cab or commercial shuttle to the Long Beach airport where you can rent from all the major companies. None of them offer a free pier shuttle. It is only about 7 miles. After renting the car, they can come back and pick the rest of you up. Of course if there are only two of you, you could both go in the cab with your luggage for the same price. Tons of cabs at the pier.

Thanks, SPlinter. We (just 2 of us) are flying out of SD on a 10:15 PM flight, which we selected to allow us to spend the day in the SD area. We'll take your advice and get a taxi to the Long Beach airport, and rent a car there for dropoff at SAN.

Friends arrived in San Pedro yesterday. They investigated all costs to rent a car to use a few days around the LA area, then drop off at LAX. Bottom line, Enterprise was the cheapest even with a drop charge. (Don't forget to include cab fare to Long Beach Airport) Enterprise picked them up at the ship. The only glitch was there was a delay because they renters on outbound cruises were returning cars that needed to be checked in and serviced. However, my friends felt they saved time compared to using the airport, and they definitely saved money.

In your situation, there will be a drop fee for SAN for all rental companies, so definitely compare!
