Conch

For fritters, I'd say BO's or the little stand outside the Aquarium. For chowder, everyplace is so similar except just a few places. Alice's has a spicy vodka conch bisque that is out of this world but she's closed until Sept. Alonzo's has a pretty good chowder. Beware of "cracked conch"--it can be very chewy and turn you off of it forever. Conch is snail--very muscular and chewy, like squid, so it has to be shaved or beaten hard to soften. I don't care for any of the conch chowders in Bahama village--they cube it and it's very chewy. (Bahamian style). For a similar but much better dish, try the ceviche at Santiagos Bodega on Petronia Street. It's snapper with avocado and mango. Gives you a conch ceviche feel but is soft and delicious. $8 I think. Safe on dental work too.

You wouldn't be pulling my leg would you? Ms. Weingarten is going to re-open next month????

Thank You, Thank You, she has the best ceviche that has ever graced a fork.

Mike I tried to get it out of her and her boyfriend but they're not saying where, just when. September. Maybe they are rehabbing her building, maybe she's going to LaTeDa. I think she'd make a great candidate for Tavern n Town or Wreckers but I don't know.

That is great news, at least she is not leaving.

My hunch is she will go back to LTD; but that is all it is and I have no basis for it.

I really don't care where she is, just as long as she is open.

I doubt she'll go back to La Te Da.

Our predictions rang true. She went to LaTeDa and is open, and her old building is a piano bar.

Alice has tangy, delicious ceviche and that beautiful conch bisque. Please try it, or anything else she prepares. I always order from the specials.

Thank you Keywesst! Would you please give me the address of LaTeDa and would it be open during the day?

Appreciate your time!

Mike, thanks for the link, what a great website. This place looks really fun; not for everyone but my wife and I will definatley check it out. Shows look great also. I'm surprised that I haven't heard of it as I've been reading these post for about 6 months. Maybe I just missed it?

LaTeDa is a great venue with lots of nice folks working there. I wish you were going to be there overnight and could catch one of Randy Roberts or Christopher Peterson's shows, they are nothing short of phenomenal.

At least maybe you can avail yourself of one of Alice Weingarten's meals.

Mike, we are there for FOUR nights and have already checked the schedule for the shows and will at least make one of them!

Thanks for giving me Alice's full name.

Really looking forward to Key West.

That is great news! I know that you will really enjoy the show and the meal.

Please come back to CC and let us know.

I will be on a cruise myself during that time.

Mike:)
