joannetk Posted April 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Just got this hotel on Priceline for October precruise. Does anyone have any information about this hotel? Sorry if this post appears twice.

joannetk Posted April 12, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I would like to know if it is close to the port and if so, can you see the ships from the hotel? How far is it from the airport? It seems to be very nice. The only other Priceline hotels that I know of (from these boards) are the Radisson and the Hyatt. I had not read about anyone getting the Doubletree through Priceline. I was a little nervous about using Priceline. But now I just can't wait until October! Thanks.
Michuck Posted April 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Hi J. . . It's not as close to the Port as the Radisson or Hyatt. Personally, I think the location is much nicer that those two hotels. Much more of an upscale area, and safe to walk around at nite. You might be able to see the ships if it's a clear day, and you have an oceanview room. The Doubletree has recently undergone a renovation, I think to keep up with the Ritz Carlton which is a block away. Coconut Grove is a great place . . . I'd highly recommend, if you have time, that you take a walk (about 2 blocks) into The Grove. Lot's of outdoor cafe's, neat shops, etc. Fun to people watch too. You can even get your fix of Johnny Rockets, so you don't have to do it onboard! From the airport, it's probably about a 25-35 minute ride, depending on time of day, which is about the same to the downtown hotels. Let me know if you have any other questions. ctsgop Posted April 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I think you are referring to the Doubletree downtown. We stayed at the Radisson just last weekend and I noticed the Doubletree next door while taking in th beautiful view of the port. The hotel looked very nice. It had the same view of the port as the Radisson--which was terrific. Actually, the Doubletree looked as if it would have even a better view of the port and Biscayne Bay! How much did you get if for via Priceline? We paid $35 for the Radisson and were very pleased. I'm sure you will be very satisfied with the Doubletree--I might try to stay there the next time we leave out of Miami--you can't beat these hotels for the price. Michuck Posted April 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I hadn't even realized there was a Doubletree Downtown!! I just checked the phone book, and there's one on North Bayshore Drive, and one on South Bayshore Drive!! When I saw "Bayshore Drive" I just assumed it was the one in the Grove on South Bayshore Drive!! So sorry!!!! As far as a beachfront hotel goes, it'd be hard for me to recommend one. Living right here, I haven't had to use any of them! Seriously though, what type of place are you looking for? "til Majesty with Hubby... joannetk Posted April 12, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Sorry, the Doubletree that I am referring to is on North Bayshore Drive. I got it on Priceline for $57.34. I bid #45.00 plus tax. I had tried $35.00 several times and $40.00 one time and was turned down each time. Today was the first bid at $45.00. I called the hotel to confirm my reservation and to request two double beds and a non smoking room. Joanne
Michuck Posted April 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2004 ExaltHim - I've gone over and over in my head the hotels on the beach, and can't really recommend any since I've never been in one. Maybe put the question out on the board, and someone will have a suggestion for you. Enjoy! Michele
