retirednready2go Posted August 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2008 I understand you put money on S&S card for use on the ship. Is there a minimum to be put on? Is the card good anywhere other than the ship? If you don't use all the money put on the card, do you receive a refund?
big_duck Posted August 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2008 $200 per person for a 7 day cruise, less for a shorter one. The card is only good on the ship and I believe Half Moon Cay which is a Carnival (HAL) owned island. A cheque with amount owing will be attached to your final bill. Cotton Posted August 13, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2008 Yes, the S&S card is your 'money' on the ship; nowhere else. Where else would you use it? Yes, you will receive a check from the purser's office before leaving the ship, should you have a credit balance.
texreno Posted August 13, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2008 Placing money on your S & S card is an option. You will be paged to the Purser's Desk to add more money to your account if your funds fall below a designated level, unless it's backed by your credit card. You other option is to just use your credit card and pay for cash for your charges on the last day.

elon mom Posted August 13, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2008 We have always had to put cash or a credit card on our S & S card. None of the shops onboard would even let you pay cash for anything on our last cruise in October.... Hated to put a $4 charge on card....Things may have changed since then. NCTribeFan Posted August 13, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2008 If you back your S&S with a credit card but don't want those small charges going on it, you can always go to the pursers desk and give them cash. You don't have to pay for it all in cash or all on a credit card. Normally, I want to charge everything under the sun, as I earn points on my credit card, which I then redeem for Carnival certificates. On our Miracle cruise, I didn't have cash with me and wanted to stop in the casino, so I drafted it on my S&S. I didn't actually want to gamble using my credit card, so I simply got the cash later, and "reimbursed" myself for that expense by retrieving the cash from the safe, taking it to the pursers desk, and having applying it to my S&S. The deposit amounts are listed here... http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Sail_And_Sign_On_Board_Account.aspx

(mostly) you will get a note in your cabin to see the pursers desk. On the last day as we are waiting to get off the ship=- listen to all the names that still have not cleared their accounts. Cant get off the ship if they are still calling names
spikester Posted August 13, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2008 Just remember if you want to pay out in cash on the last day, you will be in a huge line. It isn't quite so bad on a 7 day cruise, but on my last cruise I think there were over 100 people in line on debarkation am. You can always put it on your credit card and pay it as soon as you get home too.
