Hobby airport is much closer to Galveston. IAH is about 75 miles from Galveston. Hobby is about 30-35 miles from Galveston. Only thing is that Hobby is a much smaller airport so you may not find a flight that comes directly into Hobby.

Hi jaimedego:

Also, I have heard that the shuttles to Galveston from Hobby do not run very frequent as compared to the Intercontinental Airport.

Hope this helps. BTW, you made the right choice in switching your cruise and choosing the Rhapsody of the Seas. You are going to love this ship and her crew....nicest crew in the RCI fleet. We are sailing on the Rhapsody in Dec.2004 and we are told that Cayman should be up and running by then. So, you should be sailing to Cayman on your Jan.2005 cruise. Check out our Rhapsody cruise pics here:

We flew in and out of Hobby...rented a car with Enterprise. About $25 from HH to Galveston, and about $40 from Galveston to HH...went very smooth and quick. I reserved the car on-line. The Enterprise shuttle was there at the airport waiting. I hope this helps. The gas was minimal, a gallon or two..in fact, on the way there it was still on FULL so didn't put any in!

Marie, I have a question about renting a car from Enterprise. Is there an Enterprise location in Galvestion close to the pier? I'm wondering how you dropped off the car in Galvestion and then got to the pier and then what you did when you returned from the cruise. We're trying to make up our minds if we want to drive from Dallas to Galveston or just fly to Hobby and then rent a car.

Thanks,

Ann

Enterprise is not far from the pier. They shuttled us to the dock for free.

On the way home, we grabbed a taxi, BUT, when we got back to the Enterprise office they informed us there was a lot near the pier with a car waiting for us. They were able to set us up with a car no problem. We ran into friends later that waited on the Enterprise shuttle from the pier to the office, and it was quite a wait, and the traffic is a mess....anyway, once the shuttle came and took them, they realized it was within walking distance of the pier! I am still glad we did what we did. Debarkation is a zoo...but I will tell you what we did...We grabbed a porter, and he took us and our things to the taxi stand(past the zoo), and for minimal cost we were out and on the road ASAP.

I would suggest calling the Galveston office(use to have the card, but don't anymore) and asking them where their location at/near the pier is, or you can do like we did and taxi to the other location(which was the same location we dropped the car off at from Houston to Galveston).....I hope you can understand my confusion :).
