ginza Posted August 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2008 Hi -- interested in your comments...we are a family of six (73, 50, 52, 23, 21, and 18) normally cruise on Princess but booked Alaska for next June on Westerdam....the price and itinerary were better than Princess...booked on SY/6070 and SY/6068....my travel agent had only good things to say about HAL. Thanks.
eh2zed Posted August 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2008 You will have a blast. HAL is owned by the same company as Princess; however, its marketed as a half to full star better. I think you will see the difference. You can't go wrong with HAL or Princess for Alaska. They both have the most experience and on land infrastructure for the Alaska itinerary. Assateague Island Princes Posted August 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2008 If you liked Princess, you will LOVE Holland America! Ships are elegant and the crew is the best on the high seas! Not to mention the outstanding beds! Wow! And Alaska? Well, how can you go wrong??? The scenery and wildlife is stunning! If you get to Juneau, be sure to schedule whale watching with Harv and Marv's - fantastic personalized trip (6 person maximum) on each of their two boats. Both guides born and raised in AK and they know (and love!) their stuff! Excellent excursion! Lots of whales and other wildlife - up close and personal! Also recommend kayaking or the Rhino 4 X 4 excursion or a trip to the Raptor Center in our favorite port of Sitka, if you're going there! Awesome experiences! and great town - a small, picturesque fishing village - all that Alaska is in your mind. Just beautiful! Haven't sailed on the Westerdam - only the Oosterdam (and she is gorgeous!), but I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip! Enjoy! Happy sailing!
