Mysteryfan Posted August 26, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2008 I was wondering how the embarkation for people holding suites is done on Holland?? I have an S suite. So can we show up at 12:30 or 1pm and enjoy the suite before we sail??? How fast is the check in process at the dock in Vancouver??? We are heading out to Alaska. It looks like most of the cruises leave Vancouver about 5PM. Showing up at 12:30 or 1 is very reasonable (they likely begin the boarding around 11 unless there is some unexpected delay). You might not be able to get to your suite until after 1, perhaps as late as 1:30.
jtl513 Posted August 26, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2008 Usually cabins (including suites) are not accessible until 1:15 > 1:30, but you can enjoy the Neptune Lounge right after boarding.
aliaschief Posted August 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2008 Definitely go to the Neptune Lounge first as they will hold your carry on luggage as you go to lunch or checking out the ship. It's also a good time to schedule Pinnacle times, spa appointments, etc.
hammybee Posted August 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2008 Just an FYI- Many of the luxury cruise lines with 250-500 passengers, costing multiples of a HAL cruise, do not allow passengers to board before 3-3:30 P.M. Of course many passengers prefer to board earlier and have lunch. And so, some of the higher end cruise lines responded and now offer the opportunity for an earlier embarkation and lunch for an $100+ p/p, incremental fee. Given the surge of the masses to embark on mass marketed cruise lines, I will not be surprised if and when early embarckation becomes a privledge with an incremental price tag. JimVrhovac Posted August 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2008 If you arrive at about 12:30 that would be great. They have a special line for suite passangers and a special sitting area for them. The Penthouse passangers are escoorted on first and then the suite passangers are escorted on prior to the balance of the passangers. The Neptune lounge will be open when you get on board and you can leave your luggage there while you get lunch. Generally we board about 1:00 pm and go straight to the suite. It has always been ready. The neptune lounge staff will fill you in on perks available if you have any questions. They are a gr3eat help - use them. One thing yo may want to try is a romantic diner on the balcony. They put a table cloth on the table and serve the same meal as in the dining room and the server hangs around to serve all the courses. Check with Neptne lounge staff to set it up. Have a great cruise Ruth & Jim
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 26, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2008 You didn't mention which "S" suite you will be in. , If you are in a PS, SA, SB or SC you will have a special DELUX suite check-in at Vancouver -- keep in mind that you will also have to go through immigration to get on the ship as you are in Canada and the next port of call will be American. Getting at the pier at the time you mentioned -- just go to the Delux suite check-in. People will be able to board around 11:15 - 11:30 but the rooms for all passengers will not be ready until 1:15 - 1:30. If you are in one of the above mentioned suites -- enjoy the Neptune Lounge. Enjoy!!

northernphoenix Posted August 26, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2008 We are booked in a verandah, and an outside stateroom; Verandah deck on the Volendam. Does the verandah qualify as a suite??
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 26, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2008 We are booked in a verandah, and an outside stateroom; Verandah deck on the Volendam. Does the verandah qualify as a suite?? Only does passengers booked in PS, SA, SB and SC are considered DELUX suite passengers - all located on the Navigation Deck. On the Volendam the above categories are not located on the Vernadah deck - those cabins are regular balcony cabins -- this is how they were refered to years ago (mini-suites). cp556 Posted August 26, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2008 We are booked in a verandah, and an outside stateroom; Verandah deck on the Volendam. Does the verandah qualify as a suite?? I quickly peeked at deck plans for Volendam ... Verandah Deck seems to have AA and B verandah categories. Although they are called "Verandah Suites" they don't have the priority embarkation, Neptune Lounge, and other suite benefits of the "Deluxe" suites which are Categories PS, SA, SB, SC (or PS and S on some classes). There's always been confusion with the way HAL has named their categories ... Verandah Suites, Superior Verandah Suites, Deluxe Verandah Suites ... I don't think that is considered a suite. Also, as I understand from the HA website it's the Deluxe and Penthouse suites that get all the special stuff like laundry, special dining/lounge and priority boarding. The Superior Suites appear to get the same amenities as Veranda but are larger.

JimVrhovac Posted August 27, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Dinner on the balcony: You get a menu in the morning mail everyday. Check off what each of you want and take that to the Neptune staff. Tell them what time you want to eat and any other special requests you might have. Remind them to bring a table cloth and candles. Do this first thing thing in the morning so them have time to set it up They will set everything up for you. When the waiter arrives he will ask if you want him to stay and serve the courses or yo will do it wyourself. We had him stay as the ice cream is not melted and the coffee is hot when served. We did tip the waiter fr his work Enjoy the meal and have a great cruise Ruth & Jim
