fountain fun card question

It is about $6 a day, so around $40 for a seven day cruise. Cokes are about $1.50 each plus tip, so unless you drink more than 4 cokes a day, it's not worth it. By the way, you can also use them in the dining room in the evening.

If you don't drink alcohol..then the fountain card is a good deal. Iced Tea is horrible, and that leaves only Juice and Water.

I more than got my moneys worth in May.

I agree w/ the member above that the price is about $6 a day per card. This is a good deal if you have 3-4 drinks a day. We discovered w/ our teenagers that fountain drinks would include anything that mixes w/ soda. You can't get mixed/blended drinks w/ these cards.

In May it was $59+ Total

8 days x 6= $48.00 plus 15% Gratuity Plus Tax if you are still in port..

If i had purchased it the next morning it would have been almost $11 cheaper.. not worth it for me to wait, but I figure I would throw it out there..

If you wait til you are at sea, you avoid the tax.. In NYC the tax was over $4

Terry.. Sharing a soda card is 'cheating'... some may call it stealing.. Its one card per person...;)

My son LOVED the Passport coupons that NCL carried. It allowed him to go to certain bars and redeem for virgin pina coladas, smoothies, etc. I was told that RCCL had a similar program called the teen potion card. Wondering if Carnival has one.

we always get soda cards. our last cruise, we did not purchase them the first night - we'd had plenty of soda on the plane & decided we could live without a soda that evening (didn't board until 3ish). so, for 5 people, we saved quite a bit by waiting until the next day to buy the soda cards.

On our recent cruise to alaska my husband purchased a soda card. It was $42.00 with 6.30 tax and gratuity for $48.30. It was well worth it for him as he drinks ALOT of soda per day. Soft drinks are now 1.50 per glass and 1.95 per can without the gratuity. Hope that helps..

We buy ours the 2nd day at sea to avoid the tax in port and one day's worth of the cost of the card as well. Also, we're usually loopy on DODs on day 1 (only day we drink them), so we don't need any stinking soda the first night! :D

But if you're just going to drink soda, or buy it for the kiddies, I guess that idea doesn't really help...;)

Out of curiosity, how far at sea?

I was thinking that the cost of the tax would probably be less than the cost of the extra sodas during sailaway and dinner so I might be better off paying the tax and getting my drinks with the card. Even 1 soda when I got on board and had lunch while waiting for the room to get ready, 1 soda during sailaway and 1 soda for early seating dinner would cost more than the tax.

But maybe if you just need to pull away from the pier....

yeah, you have to consider how many sodas you think you will drink in that first afternoon. if it's more than 3, then go ahead & get the card when you board. otherwise, you can wait a day or just pay for the sodas individually. it was so long since the cruises where we bought the cards right away that i didn't even remember anything about taxes. i was just thinking about saving money by skipping that first day.

as far as sharing cards, i noticed this time around that they were checking names on the soda cards, so i'm thinking carnival is trying to crack down on that. just get individual cards. this way you are following the rules & no risk of embarrassing yourself. plus, if you still plan to share a card, it's a hassle to have to find each other every time you want a soda.

I personally try not to drink that much soda/pop anymore. I love to mix the fruit punch and lemonade together. I told my friend who will be cruising with us with her then 16 year old son and she may wait until the day at sea. But y'all are right about spending what she may of saved the first day.

do you need a soda card for bottled water? or is that avaiable free with juices, etc. My wife and I drink a fair amount of water, and I cannot find any comments showing that bottled water is included.

Bottle water is not free. A fountain card is for soda and anything you can mix with soda such as oj, cranberry juice, grenadine, etc.

This will be our first cruise since my husband had to stop drinking. We are thinking of getting soda cards. I appreciate the tip about waiting until the 2nd day to avoid the tax. My question is...would the Fountain Card include Soda water? My husband isn't much of a syrup soda person, but since he has stopped drinking, he enjoys club soda with a twist of lime. Does anyone know if this is included on the soda card?

Do you really have to wait until the second day to avoid the tax, I would think that as soon as the ship is out of port, like the 3 miles or so, that you would be able to buy it without the tax. Just like for the casino and the gift shops have to do to open. Just seems like it would work the same way.

Exactly, and in the end, for a two week cruise when you throw in taxes etc we all paid around $2000 - $3000 for our cruise, spend the extra couple of dollars, relax and enjoy yourself
