katgilm Posted September 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2008 I can tell from the photos that there is a curtain that appears to separate the bed from the sofa area. Does that curtain actually go all the way across the room to close the area off, or is it "decorative" only? My husband sometimes likes to stay up later reading - with lights on of course- so I am hoping we can close it off so that I can sleep!
CorL Posted September 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2008 yes you can totally closeoff the bed from the rest of the cabin. It gets totally dark in there then.
LAKaye Posted September 13, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2008 We have stayed in Cat Es, Ds, and JS on Voyager-class ships; we've stayed in a D and JSs on the Mariner. None of our rooms had anything other than a decorative curtain which unfurled to provide approximately two feet of separation between the bed and the sofa/love seat/chair. On the Radiance class ships, the Junior Suites have a curtain that pulls out from the wall along a track that is the length of the bed. Over the beds on most/all ships are wall lamps on one switch with a tiny reading light on another switch. Maybe if your husband uses this reading light only, you will have a room dark enough to allow you to sleep. Bon Voyage~~ Leslie
hillhouse Posted September 13, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2008 Buy your husband one of these: As Leslie said, the curtain is decorative only - short and very thin.
katgilm Posted September 13, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted September 13, 2008 It doesn't look large enough to close off all the way (in the photo) which is why I was curious. Looks like I'll have to pack that book light. That's a shame about the curtain.
sandytoes03 Posted September 13, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2008 It closes all the way.
corkster Posted September 13, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2008 We've sailed on the Mariner and the Adventure and the curtains were just for decoration - they did not close off all the way!
jakenashleysmom Posted September 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 13, 2008 We were in an aft balcony cabin on Mariner, and the curtain only closed half (if that) way.
ckrobyn Posted September 14, 2008 #9 Share Posted September 14, 2008 The curtains on the Mariner do NOT close all the way. They are more for decoration. If you try and draw the curtain you may get about 2 feet at most. The GS has a fantastic privacy curtain, but cabins below that do not....unfortunately :(
maureencruiser Posted September 15, 2008 #10 Share Posted September 15, 2008 Hello, I just got off the Grandeur and I wanted to see if the curtain would close as well. All I ended up doing was knocking the finial off the end and having to chase it around the room. But, it was a good hanging place for our towel monkey later in the cruise...Maureen
mgmigs Posted September 15, 2008 #11 Share Posted September 15, 2008 i can't remember what is was like in my last balcony but just got off explorer and the oceanview curtains did close all the way, sepearting the bed area from the rest of the room. duncanmaria Posted September 15, 2008 #12 Share Posted September 15, 2008 The curtains are evidently different in each room, judging from the answers the OP has been receiving. We had an FO (Family Oceanview) on the Mariner two weeks ago and the bed curtain did indeed go all the way across the room, totally separating the bed area from the sitting area. We used the curtain a couple of times and it was great!
