dmc1025 Posted September 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2008 Is there a good place on the internet that I can find the travel time between towns?
Budget Queen Posted September 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2008 Get a copy of THE MILEPOST, will have exact milage, if you are talking about interior Alaska?? As a ball park, allow 5-6 hours with stops Anchorage/Denali Park, 3 hours Anchorage/Seward, 8 hours Anchorage/Fairbanks, 4 hours Anchorage/Homer. Most all can be done in less, but don't plan on too tight timeframes, especially if booking tours. Construction, RV's accidents, interesting stops, all add to time necessary. Better to add a cushion in my opinion.
mytime53 Posted September 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2008 http://www.anchorage.net/467.cfm http://www.alaska.net/~apl/drivingdistances.html I always allow an hour for every 50 miles. That way I'm not rushed (I don't drive that slowly, but traffic, road construction, coffee/bathroom breaks, weather, etc can really slow you down here). As a visitor, I would allow more time on the longer drives to stop for scenery, wildlife, etc.
PennyAgain Posted September 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2008 the old saying goes; 'there are 2 seasons in Alaska. Winter and construction.' I would add that RV's are a major factor in slowing down traffic. Especially when they bunch up.
knorrisb07 Posted September 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2008 I used microsoft street and trips. It does an estimate for trip time based on a certain pre-set rule. I will always add 30% margin so I won't stretch myself too much if have never been to those places before.
