Booking Question HELP

When a site says 4 seats left at this price are they saying the flight is almost sold out. The flight has been going up and up in price and now has dropped about 30 dollars per person. The flight is with NWA and is for Jan. Should I gamble and wait or am I going to be sorry?

There are three possibilites:

1. There are only 4 seats left on the plane.

2. There are only 4 seats left at this price on the plane. There may be other seats at a higher price.

3. It is purely hype and there could be any number of seats left.

Possibility # 4

There are only 4 seats allocated to this booking agent.

I try to start looking at prices at least 6 months in advance. I do this to find the average fare, so I will know a bargain when I see one. I use several travel search sites, as well as the airline site. Another tip, check the airport site to see who flies out of there, then check their site. Some airlines, like Southwest don't appear on the Expedia/Orbitz type sites, so it's good to know just who flies from your airport.
