Any info about Sensation

The search button is not working right now and I have been going through the threads searching for any information about the Sensation and it look like there is not that much.

I am booked for 11/13-11/16 from Port Canaveral to Nassua. So far my cabin is on the Empress deck E217. The man told me it is a 6D but I'm not an experienced cruiser (yet ;) ) and I really don't have any idea what that means.

Also it will be my 11 y.o DS first cruise and I'm a little worried since we will not have any other children with us, I'm afraid there will not be much for him to do....has anyone traveled with a single child before?

My last thing is I'm sitting here debating on whether I should book a room at Comfort Suites to get the full access to Atlantis....any suggestions if this is worth it....

My last question...at least for now...is that I have been seeing that "formal night" is no longer so what is the typical dress for dinner.....and lastly...Is the "formal night" the day at sea....I'm sooo hoping since the day at sea will be my 40th birthday and silly as it may seem it would make it more special to me.

It has been a while since I went on Carnvial and at that time I had my daughter who was 12 and she loved it but we also went in a big group with 4 adults and 11 children so she kept busy.

Thanks for any info!

Understand finding info on Sensation is a bit tough on here. There is some but it is not a whole lot. So since we are doing our 12th cruise next month (on Sensation) I have been attempting to get info as well. I will share what I have. I would not be too concerned about tyour DS. There will be others on board and Carnivals program for that age group is reportedly very good.

What do you mean by full access to Atlantis? If you mean water parks and all that there are excursions you can get to cover that without getting a room. Costs - I am not sure of. If you mean only the dig there is an excursion for that as well.

Formal nite is now "Elegant Nite" and it is the nite you will be in Nassau (Sat).

You're on the Empress Deck, (4th passenger deck upward) in an Oceanview (window) cabin on Stbd side toward rear of ship. You're cabin has two twins (joinable to make King) AND two folddown bunks, one on each wall.

Formal nite (and the preceding Captain's Reception) is as dressy as you want to be - there are still a fair number of cruisers who like to dress-up for Formal Dinner, and have formal photos after dinner).

Full Access to Atlantis (waterslides, lagoons, etc. etc.) is something like $180pp via Carnival; the same pass is available AT Atlantis for about $105pp based on availability. You can Book Comfort Suites (hopefully at a discount) and get 4 unlimited access bracelets. Checkout the Destination - Bahamas forum here at CC and in Carnival Connections for tons of info on Bahamas/Excursions. On carnival.com you can selecft the Sensation and see the facilities and deck layouts and some virtual tours.

Before next booking you should really study-up on deckplans, Cabin Categories, Fare Bargains and Price Reductions, etc., etc. to makes sure you get the best overall deal/location in your booking. Just reading thru these forums is VERY informative!!!! ken

I just booked a room at the Comfort Suites next door. You get full access to the Atlantis property including the waterpark which I hear is awesome! It cost $168 including tax.

Sharon, that's a great price! The lowest I have seen so far is $239

Thanks everyone for the info

My wife and I are going on the Sensation in 9 days and have room E218. What I understand is we are under one of the dinning rooms which should be fine as long as there is carpet! I am not sure about Atlantis but we are planning on checking it out.

I will try to post some info about our trip and the excursions as I too have found not a lot of info here on the Sensation. If there is anything else you want me to check out just let me know.

Unless you're planning on spending a lot of time at the Atlantis, I think it might be a waste of money. At the Atlantis, you will have access to the shops, the casino, bars and restaurants, and some parts of the aquarium for free. Anything beyond that will require guest access. If you don't want to pay for a hotel stay at the Atlantis or Comfort Suite, but would like a more in-depth visit of the Atlantis, they do offer a tour for somewhere around $39. Still this won't give you access to the entire hotel.

There are free public beaches near the Atlantis in Paradise Island. Also, there's plenty to do in the downtown area just outside of the Welcome Center. You can also take a $5 water taxi from there to Paradise Island instead of taking the more traditional taxi cab.

Whatever you do, enjoy!

As for formal night. ours was the day we left freeport.

We dressed formally. hubby, had a suit and tie, and i had an organza pantsuit.....

100_1882.jpg

They do announce on the first night that no jeans or shorts are permitted, we saw mostly dressy outfits, but there were a few people who wore non dressy stuff, like cargo shorts flip flops and t-shirts.......but they looked very out of place.

a nice pair of slacks/skirt and a dressy top for the ladies is fine, and dockers..(dark) and a button shirt is fine for the guys on non-formal nights....there were alot of old prom/bridesmaid dresses, and a few over-the top outfits...zute suits, tuxes, and whole families dressed in the same outragous color schemes,,alot of fun to see.

We have sailed Sensation two times and are booked for her again already. She is older, a little bit busy and dated in decor but extremely clean and the service in our opinion is excellent. The food on both of our trips was amazing, with a few exceptions which is normal. The pool area has plenty of deck chairs. There is a slide.

There is a basketball area and mini golf for your son. There is Bingo (for a cost) and lots of activities throughout. Sensation on both of my trips was a party boat in many ways but it never bothered me with one exception in adult karaoke, which you would not go to anyway. I believe there is an arcade...

Formal night on the 3 night is the day you're in Nassau.

On this last trip we had E198 and E202...good location, easy access to everything. You will be pleased.

As for Nassau, I can't speak to Atlantis during the day. We always take the $1 bus to Wyndham and buy a day pass ($40 includes towels, beach, floats, lunch and pool). Atlantis at night is beautiful.

Have a great trip. Sensation, for the money, is the deal of the century. I couldn't buy the groceries for the $265 that we paid. LOVED IT!

Finally, Port Canaveral is wonderful. We arrived at 10:30, through the line by 11:00 and on board eating lunch at 11:40. Obviously, we love Sensation.

The man told me it is a 6D but I'm not an experienced cruiser (yet ;) ) and I really don't have any idea what that means. this should be a nice room. The catagory just tells where the cabin is, and what kind of beds the room has.

Also it will be my 11 y.o DS first cruise and I'm a little worried since we will not have any other children with us, I'm afraid there will not be much for him to do....has anyone traveled with a single child before? don't worry. There will be plenty of kids in Circle C that he will make friends with and have someone to hang with.

My last thing is I'm sitting here debating on whether I should book a room at Comfort Suites to get the full access to Atlantis....any suggestions if this is worth it.... I don't do this. So I can not assist you here.

Formal night is now Elligant night. Same thing, just not as strict. Which means, a dress shirt and a nice pair of pants for your son rather than a complete suit. Sunday best for your clothing rather than ball gown.

It has been a while since I went on Carnvial and at that time I had my daughter who was 12 and she loved it but we also went in a big group with 4 adults and 11 children so she kept busy.

Your son will have a blast. I assume that it is his first cruise? Well, don't worry. Get him a soda fun card, and you are set.

Have a wonderful cruise. My daughter loves to cruise, and is always wanting to go back.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all,

My wife and I had a nice relaxing cruise on the Sensation. No major complaints at all. Rooms were big with good size bathroom and shower. The food was great, if you didn't like something send it back and get something different, they are there to please and satisfy you. Formal night is not as formal as it was on other cruises. My wife wore a dress and I wore dress pants, shirt and tie and did not feel uncomfortable. I did see some people in just polo shirts...

Our kids did not go but I saw and heard that Camp Carnival was fun.

We went to Lucaya Beach and Market in Freeport and to Atlantis in Nassau.

Any Questions let me know. I was well worth it.
