Gee, now that you're going in to retirement you want them built in. I bet you really enjoyed getting the tips while you were working, because if they were built in, then you would have to report ALL of them to the IRS. Unless of course, you are one of the few who reports and pays taxes on every penny earned from tips.

I treat my tips the same as most other americans do.:D

I am/was in one of those professions that really don't deserve a tip and should not be tipped and I am the first to admit it. Yet it seems to be a game of how much can you get out of people. The next thing that is not really right but is an industry standard is "extras". Always try and sell the customer extras or make it seem you are doing something more than you should, or as it is commonly referred to on this board "Extra special attention".

The tipping thing used to be a good thing it has gotten out of hand and there are horror stories on both sides. The wait people in a restuarant have it tough because they are dependent on the cook, and the cook can only be as efficient as the equipment he has and the quality of the food products he has to work with.

I have never fully understood certain aspects and I probably never will. That is why I sometimes ask certian questions and other times I am curious on other peoples comments and reactions.

If you buy a $20 bottle of wine for dinner on a ship, the tips is $3. If on the same ship you buy a $300 bottle of wine the tip is $45. Why? Same effort.

If I bring a $20 bottle of wine the corkage fee is $10. If I bring a $300 bottle of wine, the corkage fee still is $10. Why? Same effort.

I know the simple answer is the wine cost's more so the tip is more.Well if I stay in an inside cabin and you stay in the owners suite why should your tip to the room steward not be more as your room cost's more?:D

I have been enjoying the other tipping topics and it seems that everyone from the start of your trip, you are tipping. The park and fly attendant, the mini bus to the airport driver, the airline porter, the cab driver, the ship porter, ect It seems that there is one person that we do not tip and I wonder why.(If you are flying)

Why do we not tip the flight attendant?

They provide food, beverage, magazine, blanket, and a pillow. With a push of a button, they show up to provide what ever "Service" you may need at that time.

They are paid low wages, they are long distances from their families.

Just my observation.

Steve:D

I thought it was included in the price of the flight. The airline brochure didn't say anything about tips nor did my TA.
