Future/Next Cruise Credit Question

I tried doing a search, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I know that the amount of OBC depends on length of cruise. I also know that you pay a deposit per person. What I'm trying to understand is if the "deposit" you're paying per person is just converted to OBC, or if that comes off your deposit amount when you make the actual reservation, therefore, the OBC really is a bonus. Thanks!

The amount you put down is a part of your required 'full deposit'. The OBC is in addition.
