cruzndiz Posted October 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2008 After booking this 3 day October cruise back in July, I discovered a plethora of reviews, comments and critiques on this board slamming this ship. For the rest of the summer the bad reviews continued, and only started to improve in September. I really had very low expectations for my weekend cruise; gaining solace in the fact that I was taking my DD who had never cruised before and therefore had nothing with which to compare it. Wow -- was my angst ever misplaced!!! NCL hit this one out of the park! The price is great, the ship is in beautiful condition and the staff is beyond amazing. Sure the food could be better -- but look at the price you are paying for the cruise! The buffet selections are limited, but there is pretty much always something you can find somewhere to tide you over to the next meal. Even late night, the Longboard is open for cheeseburgers, chicken wings and soups if you don't want to wait for room service. The food in Palace and Crossings was good, as was the one meal I ate in LeBistro. Not over the top fantastic, but certainly good and certainly better than if I had cooked it! If you want to talk about "over the top", look no further than the level of service provided by the staff. I am talking about EVERY staff member I encountered from the wait staff at the bars and casino to the hotel director and his staff, to the poor guy vacuuming the carpeted staircase day in day out. Everyone greeeted me sincerely with a "How are you Madam?" or "Are you having fun my lady?" And for those staff who I saw more than once the interaction was even greater. For example, one morning at breakfast I was dining alone and the assistant Captain and Hotel Director were walking throught the restaurant. They stopped at my table, asked how I was doing, what my plans were for the day, etc. Amazing! I have been on NUMEROUS Carnival cruises and even as a past guest the most recognition I ever received was to be invited to a past guest cocktail party where the officers and staff stiffly greet you as you walk into the party room and then don't mingle with the guests. Clearly the staff on this ship either 1) LOVE their jobs or 2) have undergone a Stepford Wives transition. I am guessing it's #1. I will be posting a full review on the boards shortly. But to anyone considering this cruise for a short Bahamas excursion -- do it! I can only imagine that the prices will increase when people discover NCL's hidden secret in the Sky. watchdiva Posted October 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2008 Glad you enjoyed your cruise :) and thanks for taking time to share your cruise experience. My son did the 3-day Sky back in August and had a great time also. He said the crew was great and he certainly felt that he got great value for the cost of the cruise. cruzndiz Posted October 7, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted October 7, 2008 Eddeb: those photos were great! Glad to see you all had as much fun as I did :D As for the "sewage" smell.....I have a very sensitive nose and only once did I even notice a slight waft of odor (although my 9th floor cabin was forward so I didn't spend much time Aft on that particular deck) and that was when we had to disembark in Nassau. I seriously doubt that they were dumping sewage overboard as one poster here commented!
travel_mom_1 Posted October 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2008 cruzndiz - I can't wait for the full review. I am cruising on Oct. 20th and love hearing all the details so please feel free to share as much as you want. :)
BirthdayGirl30 Posted October 7, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2008 We were down on deck 4 (LOW riders!!) and we never had even a waft of sewage smell. I don't doubt for a minute that you smelled it, but it's definitely not a ship-wide issue.
