btcruz Posted October 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2008 We will be stopping in Dominica, Grenada, Bonaire and Aruba. We would like to take a few Island tours but don't want to get tied down with a reservation. Please tell me about getting Island tours in port. If you remember the prices, that would be great. Thanks
Rare LHT28 Posted October 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2008 In Dominica we took a taxi tour of the island for $75. there was just the 2 of us but we could have done 4 people in the car for same price. It was a great tour at our own pace. Look for "Campbell" with a Mercedes at the dock http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2708085370101934561TTFpbe
paul929207 Posted October 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2008 In nearly every port, you will find people offering tours. The prices will vary depending on what you want to do. It is a good idea to do some research in advance to find out what sights are of interest to you.
eandj Posted October 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2008 If you decide on what spots you want to see or visit ahead of time, you can also take a cab. Just get a set price ahead of time. At every port your mentioned there will be private tour companies. Compare costs and their itineraries.

Thanks Have you visited the "Ports of Call" message board section here at Cruise Critic? There you will find a listing for each of your ports, with tons and tons of "been there, done that" advice from those who have done all kinds of excursions -- ship based, independent, and winging it. Here's a link to the main Ports of Call Board -- http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 Have a great cruise!
cruiserbryce Posted October 9, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 9, 2008 every port we have ever been to has had tours available at the pier...we have always tried to book with the cruise line b/c we feel the extra cost is justified being that it insures you of not getting left behind if something happens
fann1sh Posted October 9, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 9, 2008 Along with the Ports of Call boards, I think the synopses of things to do on CC's main board is "must read" stuff: Aruba - http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=2 Bonaire - http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=153 Dominica - http://http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=54 Grenada - http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=18 One of my favorite excursions ever was on Grenada. Our guide kept pulling the van over to the side of the road, apparently at random, then carving bark off trees (cinnamon), retrieving "stones" from lawns and peeling them (mace wound around nutmeg), yanking leaves off trees (bay)...you get the idea. Sorry, only remember the guide was named "Mac...something".
