PammyHound Posted April 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Forgive me if this has been asked and answered..... I have a huge group going on the Mariner this fall and we want to have a door decorating contest but since I have only done Carnival in the past, I just thought I'd come to the experts and double check to make sure RCI doesn't have any rules against this. DMorris Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I was on the VOS last year for halloween. We decorated our cabin door with no problem. We used tacky stuff and tape. Was never told to take it down. Have a blast. Truluv Posted April 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I haven't seen too many door decorations through the years (a few Cruise Critic or Travel Agency Bon Voyage signs here & there), although they're fun. We decorated one of our kid's cabin doors last summer for his birthday, to surprise him when he opened the door in the morning. At Christmas, we were on a Carnival ship and were surprised that only about 10-20% of people decorated doors. We found on that Christmas cruise that a door decoration makes it much easier to spot our cabins - not only for our kids (youngest is 12), but for hubby & me too (hubby was just diagnosed with early stage Alzheimers). We'll therefore be bringing door decorations on our 7/04 Mariner cruise. A contest sounds like a great idea!!!
kc320 Posted April 16, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I've decorated my door on my past 4 Sovereign cruises & will be doing it again in 2 weeks! I have yet to see any other doors decorated except for the cruise line decorations but that doesn't slow me down any. phat cruiser Posted April 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I was board so I though I would move it to the top for you Pammy. I saw very few door decorations on my previous RCCL cruises BUT so what. I always been a nonconformist. Consider my door decorated. madforcruising Posted April 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Haven´t seen any door decorations other than the ones of the cruise line either so far. I couldn´t think of a rule against as long it doesn´t damage the door But this thread remembered me of a "sort of door decoration" I saw last year on the Norwegian Dawn. The cruise line placed magnets to the door indicating and welcoming their repeater guests. And I think also indicating the different member status (not sure about this one but there have been differences). I thought it was a nice idea and it was interesting to check out how many repeaters on the ship. No big deal but I liked the idea. Sorry for getting a little OT. Cruise Miriam Posted April 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Pam, over the past few years, I've seen some doors decorated on RCI ships, mostly for special occassions. On my last cruise, our Host Cruise, and the C&A member cruise, we had magnets from RCI and I had printed out door signs that had been made available here on Cruise Critic. I don't see why you couldn't have a contest. If in doubt, why don't you have your TA ask RCI directly? PammyHound Posted April 16, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted April 16, 2004 YES! Decorations make it much easier to spot your cabin when you're going down those long halls. On the Conquest this past January, my inlaws could never figure out which way to turn to get to their side of the ship until somebody decorated the door on the other side so they always knew to go the other way! PammyHound Posted April 16, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted April 16, 2004 That is interesting, they must be indicating to the crew members who their gold, platinum and diamond members are. So guess if I don't have a magnet on my door, does that mean I won't be getting the "royal" treatment say a Diamond member might? Dennis! I'm glad to see you in the in the spirt of things! Can't wait to see your door!! Miram, thanks for the info, I'll check with Debbie@Crucon and have her double check it with RCI. We have decorated our doors on several Carnival cruises so I'm hoping we can on RCI! madforcruising Posted April 16, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2004 PammyHound: It was on NCL where they had the door magnets indicating the member status. Never saw them on RCCL. So don´t worry about the Service. I just remembered this of the NCL cruise and thought it was a nice idea RCCL could think about. PammyHound Posted April 16, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Whew! I'm glad to hear RCI doesn't have the past guest magnets since I'm a newbie this trip to town but next time... I'll be a full fledged past guest! This is cruise number 5 for me but being my first RCI one, I feel clueless all over again. Cruise Miriam Posted April 16, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 16, 2004 PammyHound, those magnets I referred to were for the special Crown & Anchor cruise. I've never seen it before. If you want to know the truth, I've always had great service on RCI, but the absolute best was on my very first cruise with them. They have no idea if you've cruised with them before or not. As for the ideas with the Bahama immigration forms and printable luggage tags, I made those suggestions to RCI. Maybe more people need to? serene56 Posted April 16, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 16, 2004 the doors are differnt on a Roayl ship compared to a carnival ship. Also the hallway is a lot different then carnival also. I always had an aft cabin on carnival and the walk down those looonnnggg hallways were murder. But theway the ahllways are on ROyal where the bulge out is...the hallway looks curved so the walk isnt so bad. (you even get a small mailbox kinda thing outside your door where you get your reminders from the cabin steward.. Dzamma Posted April 18, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 18, 2004 I decorated our door on our last cruise just for fun. No complaints from anyone. Other cruisers said it helped them to find their cabin too. I put sticky magnets on the back, so it wouldn't hurt the door. Woodywoman Posted April 18, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 18, 2004 We've decorated our door in the past. Once, we were told that it wasn't allowed by a room steward. The second time a theft came by and stole part of our decoration. Good luck! jburp Posted April 21, 2004 #20 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Last year we decorated our door in Red White and Blue to show our patriotism. Brought garland and pasted it around the door frame. This year we had brightly colored paper garland for around the door and decorations of parrots on the door. No one ever told us to take it off. sbgrace Posted April 22, 2004 #23 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We cruised with a group of first-timers last year--my family were the only folks that had cruised before. We pasted used pictures of famous people to decorate the door--with the real person's name underneath. One couple, for example, were Maxwell Smart and Agent 99. Another couple were James Bond and Pussy Galore. Some of our friends thought this had been done by the room stewards and wondered how they got the personalities so accurate. LOL We heard our room stewards laughing at the joke--so they enjoyed it too.
