cruzadict Posted October 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2008 Just setting out for our QM2 transatlantic from New York, 16th October, and wondered if anyone out there knew of a website where I can check the sea state of the ocean. Have tried the weather channels to no avail.
sullaRaffaello Posted October 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2008 Just setting out for our QM2 transatlantic from New York, 16th October, and wondered if anyone out there knew of a website where I can check the sea state of the ocean. Have tried the weather channels to no avail. http://www.oceanweather.com Click Current Marine Data. You'll see a map and can click the part of the world you want to see. Alternatively, on the left side you can click one of the ocean regions listed. The wave heights are color coded. Deep blue is very calm. Dark brown is 40ft+. There's a scheme at the bottom of the map. I'll be on QE2 the same day.
cruzadict Posted October 15, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted October 15, 2008 sullaRaffaello - thank you so much for the info. Just had a quick look and it seems that the seas are quite calm at the moment!! Let's hope they stay that way.
Gunther Heed Posted October 15, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 15, 2008 I don't know. You can never be sure that the sea will remain calm. One time I went on cruise and was hanging over edge of rail calling, "Ralph!" before ship even ported. Gunther Heeds
new to cuising Posted October 15, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2008 With calm seas, would it be a good opportunity for Captain McNaught to try a high speed crossing - or even a race. Whilst it may pose problems to Southampton if they arrived early they could always take the English channel at a slow speed to delay their arrival. The opportuity will never arise again for two high speed liners to get into the record books PB:D
IRBaboon Posted October 15, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2008 On the westbound we have made a steady 23 - 24 knots - hope to post some close quarter pictures from this afternoon at some point.
