Scuba in Costa Maya?

I'm trying to decide if we (family of 4) should dive in Costa Maya while on our cruise in July 09. We are going to dive in Cozumel and probably in Belize. Should we dive in CM or skip it?

It is very different than Cozumel and Belize however you will enjoy the dives. There are all sorts of canyons and shelves. Not an abundance of fish. We enjoyed our dives there very much!

Who did you dive with in Costa Maya?

We have dove with Dreamtime Divers in Costa Maya. Was not impressed with the diving or the operator.

We had one fat jerk who tried to ride on the back of a turtle. That was enough for us.

 

I give Cozumel a 8-9 and Costa Maya a 3-4. I agree not much fish variety and some canyons and channels. Very dull stuff.

We have dove south of Playa Del Carmen near Puerto Aventuras and it was excellent 7-8. The current there is fast. We drifted over 2 miles in 50 minutes.
