First Time Cruiser

We are going to be taking our first cruise on November 15th, on RCCL's Majesty of the Seas. This will be a four night cruise to the Bahamas.

1. Has anyone experienced any broken luggage due to handling by staff?

2. I am assuming that cell phones won't work in the Bahamas or maybe even at CocoCay. But will they work in Key West?

3. How much money, cash should we bring per person. One of the post said $100.00/per day, per person. I am assuming that is for the alcohol and other drinks purchased along with normal tipping. We might have four alcoholic drinks the whole cruise and will stick with the water, coffee, tea etc.

4. How much are RCCL shirts etc on the ship?

Thanks.

Cell phones will work in Key West and definitely not in Coco Cay and most likely not in Bahamas. The shirts are pretty expensive but on the last day they usually put them on sale for 50% off which makes them not a bad price.

The money deal is totally up to each individual but the $100 should pretty well cover it. If you need additional cash you can get some as a charge to your Seapass in the casino "to use on the slot machines" with no fee charged and shows on your credit cardas a regular purchase.smile.gif

You know you won't need cash on the cruise ship, except for the casino. Everything is charged to your sign and sail account, which is backed by your credit card that you submit at checkin (they take an imprint of your card just like they do at hotels). Personally, unless you gamble a lot, $100 a day is a lot of money for one person to spend. Alcohol drinks cost anywhere from $3.50 to $6, depending on brand. Photos that the cruise line takes are outrageously expensive and the t-shirts run in the $20 to $50 range. Tipping is usually around $10 per person per day, but that can be put onto your shipboard account, so again, cash isn't needed. The only time you need cash is for the casino, independent shore excursions, small purchases on shore, and tips for cabs.

Depending on your cell phone provider, the cell may work in the Bahamas, but not on Coco Cay. Key West is part of the United States, so of course it will work there.

I've not had luggage ruined by the porters for any of my 37 cruises.
