getfuzzyfan Posted October 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2008 I am not having much luck finding private tour companies/guides in San Juan for a private shore excursion. Any names, websites, etc. would be welcome. Thank you.
Luckyroot Posted October 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2008 I can tell you that Victor of Countryside Tours was fantastic last year. So much so, that we booked him again this year. Great personalized service, very knowledgeable about San Juan and just an all around nice guy. Highly recommend him

sun&sea Posted October 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2008 Last January, we asked at our hotel for a list of drivers/guides. We called a few and asked if they were available to take us to Ponce tomorrow. We ended up with Pablo Figuero. He worked pretty much on his own and did an excellent job! This is the info from his card: Pablo Figueroa Private Tour Guide cel. 787-448-9788 Fax 787-790-7009 pablotour@gmail.com He was kind, professional, and wanted to make our day a good one. He was willing to take us most anywhere we wanted to go! Janet

sun&sea Posted October 22, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Janet - Were did he take you, how long, cost? Steve He had standard rates posted in his cab for particular areas, such as San Juan to the rain forest, etc. However, since it was just two of us, he gave us a lower rate. :) (he could go lower, but no higher than the posted rate)He took us from the Embassy Suites down to the southern part of Puerto Rico to Ponce for an all day tour. I believe it was somewhere around $250, but I do not remember exactly what it was. It was reasonable to us and we actually ended up giving him more than he asked for. He will take you wherever you want to go. Janet
mommyto2girls Posted October 22, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2008 http://www.countrysidetourspr.com/ I spoke with him about a tour for November. A friend who lives in San Juan recommended Country Side to me.
aqua Posted October 22, 2008 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2008 We used Countryside this summer for a post cruise tour, but I know that they can do just about any kind of tour. We paid about $200 and had 8 people on the tour. We probaby could have had 10 people or so in the van, but this was our family group so we didn't want to add people. We were very pleased as the driver did a great job. Victor can customize the tour however you want. I recommend Countryside highly.
recgirl Posted October 25, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Victor with Countryside Tours was great! I used him in August. He did a private tour for 3 people - took us all over the city and then dropped us off at the ship. Great experience!
monicajay Posted October 26, 2008 #11 Share Posted October 26, 2008 Hi, I am looking for a tour for aprox. 15 people. I e-mailed Victor and a half day tour to the rain-forest was $50.00 per person. This means he wants $750.00 for a 3.5 hour tour:eek:. I know gas has gone up but this is crazy.
RayInPR Posted October 26, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 26, 2008 Wow! Rent 3 cars, put 5 people in each car. It will cost much less than $750! There's really no good reason to have a guide in the rain forest. The forest rangers can tell you all you need to know. And if you really want, you can pick up a ranger-guided tour for like $5/person. Drive yourself to El Yunque. You can get directions, trail descriptions and a trail map in our El Yunque National Forest primer. Besides, if you go with a guided tour you won't get to some of the best spots in the rain forest like Juan Diego Falls or the wonderful "swimming hole" at the end of Angelito Trail. Also, having a car will allow you to stop and eat some great local food along the way or spend the afternoon at the beach in Luquillo -- just minutes from the rain forest! Hope this helps! JoAnneV Posted November 4, 2008 #13 Share Posted November 4, 2008 We used Countryside and were very pleased. We had signed up for a group tour but it ended us just the four of us. Tony was great!
Eqty Posted November 5, 2008 #14 Share Posted November 5, 2008 If you're up for a bit of walking, Debbie Molina Ramos does a very nice job with her "Night Tales of Old San Juan" tour. Her new Rum Tasting tour also sounds interesting.
