Anyone - Island Village ?

Has anyone spent time at the Island Village that is next to the pier? Can you spend the afternoon there? Is the beach nice and how about shopping and food choices?

Its a nice place to shop. Big enough to spend 2 hours or so if you enjoy browsing stores. Less if you don't like to spend time browsing. If you want to spend more time shopping, its only a few minutes walk down the street to another shopping area. Don't remember the name exactly but its something like Taj Mahal??? I thought the prices there were much better than at Island Village, but Island Village was prettier with a band playing and dancers by Margarittaville.

Margaritaville is at one end of Island Village with a beach. The beach is not big but its nice enough. Its right by the piers where the ships dock.

There is a charge to use the beach, but don't remember off hand what the charge was.

Just returned last week from Western Carib cruise and stopped at Ocho Rios. If you walk straight... almost all the way to the street, there will be an entrance on your right for Island Village. It is nice to walk around as said previously for a few hours. If you continue out to the street and cross, you will be at the Harbour Shopping Center (looks upscale-ish with a few stores....also, there's a Harley-Davidson store here in case anyone's interested).

If you walk to the left of the Harbour stores (about a block, if that) is the Taj Mahal shopping center. Not as nice, but good tourist type deals for T-shirts, souvenirs, etc. In between these 2x shopping areas was a place to eat. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe at the Taj Mahal.

If you continue further, you will run into the Sony Plaza. We didn't go that far this time so I can't comment on what's all there.

Back to Island Village info...The beach costs $3/pp and has a water trampoline but I THINK you can still get an wrist bracelet for free if you buy a drink or two at Margaritaville. (We did that last time but NOT this time). There are local vendors IN the water at this beach. They are NOT allowed ON the beach but security can't stop them from yelling to you from the water. Last time a local guy even swam out to my DH to try to sell him some 'weed'.

At the entrance to Island Village there is usually someone giving out free coupons for a free shot at Margaritaville. ;). Might want to check that out. Also, there's a nice pool with slide to use within Margarittaville.

Hope this helps.....
