He did get a kick out of hearing about your equipment and also said, 'nice stuff'. So, are you still playing? Hope so.

They have played at the Plymouth Waterfront Festival for the last 3 summers also. You'll have to introduce yourself to him if you go to one of their gigs. I'm sure you'll recognize some of the places they play on the site.

Have you cruised the Majesty often? I'm looking at the Spirit repo next year, but not sure if he can get the time from school.

It's all in what you like. Since you've already paid for it ... just give it a try. Personally the Majesty was my least favorite sailing out of 5 total. I like to try a different ship to see what fits my style. I do like NCL just not the Majesty. Too small. I'm an active sort and Majesty did not have any deck sports at all; no volleyball, no basketball, no putt-putt, no ping pong etc. Oh, and the casino WAS very smoky. It wasn't ventilated well in there at all. They did provide entertainment in the showroom twice each evening. The staff seemed nice. The food in the dining rooms was not as tasty as on the other larger ships I sailed on. I did like the food at the little French restaurant. I only paid $15 extra for that and it was worth it. It was, I believe, a 5 or 6 course meal.

So, long story short. Give it a try and after you have experienced it then you will be able to compare the larger ships with the smaller ones.

I am happy to see Majesty leave the NCL line so that maybe a larger NCL ship will sail out of the SC port. Because I am in NC and it was only a 4 hour drive to the port in Charleston. I would rather drive there than to fly to FLA

But there are many in the Phila. and Balt. areas that are sad to see her go because large ships cannot get under bridges in those areas so that leaves nothing. :(

Majesty has ping pong. But I'm sure that's not really what you wanted. Suggesting to someone to go ahead and sail since it's been paid for is very encouraging. I'm sure they appreciate that advice. As far as putting a large ship at the port of Charleston, you'll have a choice of other lines that are going to start sailing from there. Why anyone would want to see a small, quaint ship that's affordable be replaced with the huge monstrosities that are already so common is a mystery to me. Different strokes, and all that.

I can only imagine the chaos in Charleston, if a cruise ship twice the size of the majesty comes in on a weekly basis... hopefully they will do something to the embarkation process to alleviate the lines and three step process i think i saw.. I will truly miss the Majesty... she wasnt hi-society.. she was.... family... nuff said

Celebrity Mercury will be there in Feb. 2010. I am not sure how big it is-I just know it does not get as good of reviews as the other Celebrity ships. I hope NCL puts another ship there, if only for a few Bermuda sailings.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello Fruitloopz, it's the companionship that makes the trip worthwhile. My husband and I took a 25th anniversary trip on a large and expensive ship (not the Majesty) this past summer. As I started to plan for excursions I came across lots of negative posts and was afraid that I'd made a mistake. My husband insisted that we no give a thought to all that nonsense that was posted. This was our trip and our memories. Our trip was wonderful, the ship beautiful, food great, and when I returned home I realized that I had forgotten to check the grout in the bathroom! I was much too busy having fun to be checking up on the housekeeping staff!;)

We're now in the process of preparing for our third cruise on the Majesty. Why? Because it departs from convenient east coast ports and the cost won't put us in the poor house. The Majesty may be older and less glitsy than some other ships, but it has a friendly and relaxed feel. Our experience has been that the staff have been very helpful and the food as good as on other ships.

Happy 25th Anniversary!
